Lush surroundings make the Jog Falls a great tourist spot

Viewed Jog Falls from two sides. A great experience as there was ample water in the falls despite our visit during off season. Viewing platforms are being redone and once completed, should provide a very scenic view to the tourists.

The sheer beauty of the place leaves you spellbound. One of India’s most famous waterfalls, the quartet of Raja / Rani / Rocket / Roarer, collectively called Jog Falls, is a sight to behold!

Gorgeous views with lovely falls

This was the main agenda for our Shimoga trip. We landed there after a long drive and the sight was just mesmerising to say the least. The rainbow (created by sun rays piercing the water) dancing on the place of water hitting the ground was a pure joy to watch. We were very disappointed to learn that the path to the ground of the falls has been closed due to construction work going on there. We just clicked a few good views from the top and had to return.

Early morning Jog falls is refreshing

We went to Jog in November when the water was scanty, but still loved it.
The best way to see Jog is early morning. When you take a walk you can still hear the roar and lots of mist and bird tweets. It’s beautiful. By 7am and later you will literally have busloads if people.

What it lacks is maintenance by the KSTDC. The overgrowth of wild grass blocks the views, the lookouts are not clean, I hope they have included a long walking circuit around the Jog in their recent building works

Majestic and Serene

The famous Jog Falls needs no description. The view was totally mesmerising and majestic and one could make out why it's among the tallest falls in India. Though, we visited in September during the monsoon time, it wasn't in its full night though.
The roads leading to Jog Falls, also called Gersoppa Falls, is good with ample parking space. There is parking fee applicable and also entrance fee of ₹10 for visitors.
Since it was monsoon season, the premises were muddy and there was some construction work going on, adding to the inconvenience.
There are lot of food stalls as well including a small complex selling Dosas, Maggi, omlette, etc would wouldn't recommend due to hygiene issues.
Hidden gem in this area - if you go further down the road inside the Jog Falls premises, you can see Mahatma Gandhi Hydro Electric plant with the view of penstock pipes and power house on the hill side. This section isn't crowded much as well, giving a good view.

Can’t compare with Niagara Falls

Jog fall is a famous place and call it mini Niagara Fall. But it’s not that great. We went in peak rainfall time but still it was not that great. If you are close by you can visit this place once.

Wrong Timing !!

We planned to visit the jog falls seeing reviews and youtuve videos on how the falls is in good strength. But unfortunately, by the time we planned, a week gad passed by and the water intensity had come down..so it was a regular not so great waterfall. Please check with licals before making any plans to visit the jog falls in its full strength.

Jog falls - nice but short of breathtaking

Right from school day geography, the Jog falls, is one of the most spoken about waterfall in India. So I wanted to tick it off my list during my recent visit to the region. We hired a cab from Manipal for the ~3.5 hours drive. The road is smooth though more than 50% of the trip was on winding roads. The speciality of this region is that it is scenic & beautiful no matter which direction you go. On the way, after Kundapur, the ocean kisses the highway at Marvante. There are several RoB over pristine backwaters. The drive was overall pleasant. At Jog falls, we were fortunate that the most cleared just in time for us to have good look at the massive falls. One must be clear that you can only view the falls from a distance, not have a bath or swim etc. These nothing much else other than getting a nice snap clicked (at a price of course!!) by one of the many teeming local photographers there. A lot of construction activity was ongoing while we visited, so the place was slushy due to rains. There's a restaurant at the location of the falls which serves lunch from 1 pm. Not too many eateries once you leave the National Highway. Good to plan the timing in advance. Overall it was a nice experience but way below what my imagination was about the great Jog falls

Excellent tourist spot but amenities not tourist friendly

First of all the tourist spot is excellent. Amazing view of the falls in the western ghat. Good time to visit during monsoon season. Its memorable when its along with Mist. No words to explain the view.
