This palace of Shivappanayaka is locatedon KOTE road Shimoga. On a general day it offers nothing much to view, only the outer courtyard and front rooms are available to view and the upper balcony. The museum is situated on the other side of palace with remnants and warfare of the chieftain. The garden surrounding the palace is quite nice and river Tunga is on the other side of the complex . Best time to visit is during Dasara celebrations

This is a very well-maintained palace and museum that is a must visit if you are in Shimoga.
Although it was a holiday, the guard was kind enough to allow us group of friends as long as we remained calm and genuinely wanted to explore the palace.
The stone sculptures from different periods are well-preserved and were interesting to see, and the gardens are serene.

Though the woodwork is great and present a glimpse of the expertise of the artisans of yesteryear, it looks like a poorly maintained place.

Quite well-maintained lovely wood palace. Takes up only about 30 minutes to see and is located within the city.

Its historical place in shivamogga. Best place spend with the children and we can see ancient kote anjineya temple.

Please dont go on 2nd saturday. It is closed on that day. I went there and I found it closed. On wikipedia, it shows open.

This place is in the heart of the city. It is a wooden palace of the erstwhile princely state of shimogga. Palace is simple and no big architectural marvel. Pillers are plain and devoid of any carvings. But a part of the palace is made into museum which houses beautifully carved stone idols of Jaina, Buddha, Shaiva, Shakta and Vaishnava cults. These are the monuments found in the nearby areas. The places of procurement and the period to which they belong are also mentioned.
