Really fun day put for the family, the afternoon tea was delicious, volunteers are friendly and informative. It was also dog friendly which was a bonus. Definitely recommend 👌🏻

We had a fantastic trip on the Dean Forest Railway. We’d pre-ordered bacon rolls, which were delicious. A gentle way to enjoy the views powered by steam! Returned to the cafe for tea and cake and bought a few things in the shop. A really well organised outing, café and shop. Loved it and would certainly recommend.

Lovely surroundings combined with a trip into the past,the food in the cafe was excellent as where the ales being sold at the bar on one of the stations. The volunteers and staff were friendly and a pleasure too meet with the exception of one who I can only describe as a person who thinks he's got a bit of power and is given the chance is going to use it.

Two and our dog. Engine 5541, very smart. Staff lovely, very welcoming and full of information which is welcome with so many enthusiasts. Not a long trip but fun. We started in an open carriage but moved to a compartment as soon as on freed up. Much more in tune with our memories of travel in 50/60s.
No loos on the train but the stations were equipped. One disability loo even had carpet! Times were different then.
Dogs are welcome, small fare (£2) for each pooch. Only runs three times a week so may be good to book. We really enjoyed it and the pooch was peaceful despite the unusual sounds.

We had a great afternoon out with full afternoon tea on the train. The food was fresh and home made. Nicely presented mix of sandwiches, cakes and scones with clotted cream. It all made for a very relaxed afternoon’s jiurney on a delightful route through the forest. We were even lucky enough to catch sight of a fawn in the woodland. Highly recommended and will definitely visit them again in the near future. Thanks to all the friendly and informative staff/volunteers for making it a very enjoyable experience.

Not the longest of trips, but well worth a visit if in the area, staff were brilliant, very friendly, sausage sandwich from the cafe was to die for, will definitely be going back ..

We started at Norchard and some of us did one round trip whilst others bought a rover ticket for only £3 more and did several trips. Great staff / volunteers who deserve your support if in the area. Nice to hear the steam engine working up the incline from Lydney. If they have someone available they will show you around the workshop but ask first

We had a lovely half day at Dean Forest Railway, all the volunteers do a fantastic job, they are extremely professional especially when they get no payment for their services, all the train carriages are so clean and well cared for and the Engines are pristine, if you get the chance pay them a visit, it’s well worth it.

What a great day out! Never have thought of experiencing a trip on a Steam Railway, but we went for it! We thoroughly enjoyed our wee' trip on an old Steam locomotive 🚂 felt like a big kid again! The cafe was also handy & sufficient for a brew & cake!

I would very much doubt it as the site is very open even if there is a barrier and don't forget it is the railways land not public land.

Absolutely, dogs are welcome on the standard train services for £2, but it's worth checking on the website for special events (for example they aren't allowed on the evening trains with dining on board).
