We were very excited to visit stay overnight in Thousand Islands National Park at their oTENTik hybrid tent cabins. We booked site MT-D. We were disappointed by several facets of our 2-night stay.
1. Bugs: at the park, there are so many mosquitoes. There are enough gaps in the oTENTik door frame to allow ants and earwigs into the cabin. The visitor center bathrooms and outhouse are inundated with spiders and mosquitoes.
2. Traffic Noise: The Thousand Islands Parkway is very near the oTENTiks. We could hear Highway noise throughout the night. There are also several night trains on a nearby railway.
3. Variation in campsites: the oTENTik sites themselves are very unequal. MT-Awas near the water and in a grassy area. MT-E is perched quite far from the water. MT-D was quite small and heavily wooded. This information is not provided when booking.
4. Bathrooms/water: The bathrooms were not clean, buggy, and frequently out of soap and/or toilet paper. The only potable water spout was near the visitor center bathrooms, which was about 3-5 minute walk from the oTENTik sites. This makes camp life more difficult; most campsites we’ve been to have water stations nearby.
The Thousand Islands are beautiful and well worth a visit. The park seemed a great spot to launch a boat for a river ride, and the Xplorers staff was excellent and great with the kids; they loved earning their Xplorers dog-tag.

There is no denying that the Thousand Islands are pretty, but I would say the Georgian Bay Islands are much better representation of an archipelago national park than this.
The park itself is pretty disjointed and have to drive through private properties to get in between those sections. As a result, it loses that wilderness vibe that the other national parks show.
Also, the parking fee is a bit of an overcharge. 7.25 a day for parking is overpriced. This should've been covered by Discovery Passes, especially with how disjointed the three mainland sections of the park are.
Hiking is great. Landon Bay lookout is a great recommendation.

We booked an oTENTik at Mallorytown (the Visitor Center) and had a fantastic time. If you haven't stayed in one before, it's like a cross between a cabin and a tent. They're still fairly new and in great condition. Check out the Parks Canada website for more info on those, and to reserve. There's only 5 oTENTik's at Mallorytown (and a few on a couple of the islands) so it's pretty quiet and you're never really fighting people for the washrooms/showers.
The Visitor Center property just has the office, the comfort station, nice picnic areas on the water, a boat launch, playground for kids, and the oTENTiks (also right on the water).
Washrooms in the comfort station are open until 5pm-ish until the office closes. There's an outhouse closer to the sites that's open 24/7. The showers in the comfort station are available at all times though (you'll get a key to access those). There's also an outdoor dish washing area with running water.
We stayed in oTENTik 3E (the furthest one) hoping for some added privacy. We didn't know that it was up a hill, which made carrying all our things a bit more difficult. It was also the only oTENTik that wasn't right on the water. We had a little path that took us to our own little piece of the waterfront. This site also had 2 picnic tables: one near the oTENTik, and one closer to the water. In terms of privacy.. we still had a number of people walking up to our oTENTik, not realizing that they were on our site because it sort of looks like the path leading to it is part of a trail. If I was going to stay at this park again, I'd definitely go for one of the other sites: 3B and 3C would be my top picks (followed by 3A/3D) in terms of closeness to the water, privacy, and distance to the parking lot.
The oTENTiks are right near a hiking path which is convenient. There's also a paved biking path that runs along a very long stretch of the Thousand Islands Pkwy. The Visitor Center is just off the Pkwy and you will hear some cars going by, so just be aware of that if you're hoping to only hear sounds of nature while you're there.
There are a number of tiny islands which you can paddle to/around by kayak or canoe from your oTENTik (or from the boat launch if that's easier).
The park is also a driveable distance from Brockville (highly recommend checking out the Brockville tunnel if you decide to make a day trip). You have Gananoque in the other direction, which also has a number of great restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream shops, golf courses, etc.

A very historic national park, this is a great spot to visit. With several pretty hiking trails, it is well worth grabbing the camera and heading out!

Came across this tiny park while biking on the nearby trail. It is really small right on the River, has a few camp sites, a visitor's centre (open only during the summer) and public washrooms (open 8:30-4:30 p.m.). There is paid parking but not really worth a visit unless you plan to spend a day picnicking,boating or camping. Lots of picnic tables and a shelter. A small rocky shoreline that would be nice just to sit and appreciate nature and watch sunsets.

We stopped here to enjoy the views, but didn't realize you can book a glamping tent here. They look phenomenal! This is a nice spot for a chance to get near the St Lawrence River, and contemplate life.

Too much overgrowth, dead trees falling down and just being left. Too many ticks. Remember the park when families could picnic, swim along a beach and enjoy family memories.

We took at short detour off the 401 to go through the Thousand Islands National park. We probably should have taken a longer detour as the part we saw made it difficult to see the water because of the high trees. Plan to take a reasonable detour to get the most out of it.

Visitors center is interesting and a worthwhile stopover, especially for children, with lots of hands-on activities. Short walk to seashore and water view. Lots of (paid) parking, mostly used by people who are boating on the river.

We booked oTentik 3E at Mallorytown Landing for two nights. Overall, the location was convenient, the staff were very friendly and hardworking, they've tried their best to keep the facilities clean and neat. However, here is something you need to consider when you plan your next trip here:
1. There is no shelter for the outdoor eating/picnic area, therefore, your table gets messy (from insects, bugs, and tree fallings, etc) very soon after you clean it.
2. BBQ is the old-school charcoal style, so don't forget to bring in your own charcoal, there is no propane BBQ.
3. Tons of mosquitoes in shower room, so be prepared to be "kissed" when you are most vulnerable. There should be some screen to cover all the openings, don't know why there isn't. There is cold and hot water for both shower rooms, but water temperature can be very inconsistent, especially when the neighboring shower room is occupied. Also it would be better if there is a small sink in the shower room.
4. Otentik 3E is very, very close to the main road - Thousand Islands Pkwy, so if you book this one, noise is something you need to consider. Besides, according to our friends who stayed at 3B, it's not less noisy at theirs too. So I guess the location of the whole site is a main concern, if you want a quiet and peaceful vacation, try to avoid this site.
5. Shower and modern washrooms are relatively far (as compared to some other sites we've stayed before), not situated in between the five otentiks. There is one composite toilet (an outhouse, to be precise) near 3D and 3E. Feel free to try this if your are really interested to experience or you really really need to go, otherwise, I would not recommend this, especially those with very young kids.
6. Water flow/pressure in the washroom is a big problem. No matter how hard the staff is working and cleaning, they couldn't do all. So be prepared to see some unflushed toilets bowls (sorry to have to visualize this again, eww).
7. I understand it's supposed to be an outdoor and natural experience while staying at an otentik, so we brought headlights with us. There are lights in the washroom and shower-rooms, but not in the hallway. Don't understand why. Would recommend Parks Canada to have some motion-sensor lights installed.
8. According to the binder left on the table of each otentik, there is a passcode for using the shower rooms. However, it's not true. The doors can be opened easily, without punching in any code. So I guess non-otentik campers can also share the shower rooms? Just my guess. Hopefully the authority can do something about this.

Lee, you might consider googling your information before you answer, clearly you know little about the 1000 Islands, including what defines an island.

Hello, Im looking at Gordan Island. For me, my wife and 6 year old daughter, it would mean kayaking from the launch site to the island. How far is this? Im trying to find a map but have had no luck.
