Mijn verwachting was laag nadat ik gelezen had over de staat van de warmwaterbronnen. Toch vind ik het een bezoekje waard als je een week in Molyvos verblijft. Ik ben er naartoe gefietst, wat zeker niet te onderschatten is, maar wel een leuke manier om de omgeving te ontdekken. Verwacht vooral geen luxe, het is maar 1 groot bad waar je met 4 a 5 mensen in kunt zitten. Het is zeer warm maar de tweede keer zalig, nadat je afgekoeld bent in de zee. Beeld je gewoon in dat het water helend is en het werkt vanzelf!

It is abandoned, a little dirty, but has its charm. Very hot! Go swimming to the sea right after. Please bring some cat food with you.

Fantastic experience with the warm water from the ground mixing with the cold sea water. The small building where the water was piped in was exciting.

Not for me and not for my grandson. I had seen this on a Greek documentary and we thought "let's do something different and go to the thermal baths". I turned around as quickly as I came.
Really not for me. Not maintained, dirty and crowded. It is also not large and if there are 4 or 5 people, it is already overcrowded. I haven't even been to the other door to visit the beach or boulders there. It looked much better on TV, maybe used a little too much trickery....

The spa is closed as a business, but the door is open and you can take a bath on your own responsibility. The water is very hot. You shouldn't stay more than 10 minutes. The place is great and it had a nostalgic atmosphere. It' s a pity that such a naturally beautiful place isn't open for visitors

If you do your research before you go then you’ll know that this place has been officially closed for 3 years, but in typical Greek fashion is open for anyone to access. I knew it would be unkept, very sadly falling into disrepair but wanted to experience the natural hot springs in case I never get the chance again. So my daughter and I went with our swimsuits on, our towels and our water shoes. It’s only a few minutes walk from the bus stop and there was room for a few cars if you want to park near it.
I understand that the building next to it previously had private baths and massages.
My daughter was admittedly a little bit horrified by the seaweed bits on the floor, the low dark entrance, the rusty handrail and the old narrow door through to the pebbly beach and sea. She was eventually pursuaded to join me. Luckily there were only 4 other people in the vicinity, all of who were clothed.
We followed our instructions (thank you RobandCarol) to go in the sea, go into the 17th century hot springs chamber and sit still for 5 mins with our feet in the water; go in the sea then return to the hot springs up to our knees for 5 mins; go in the sea then sit on one of the large stones in the bottom of the hot springs for 5 mins, keeping still and being careful when we got out of the hot water and to relax.
The water is hot! Someone said 46 degrees? If you moved it felt very hot but if you kept still it was fine. It’s constantly being naturally replenished so you’re not sitting in stagnant water.
It’s supposed to help with a myriad of medical conditions. Well I don’t know about that but it was certainly interesting, unusual, fun and memorable. Followed by a delicious late lunch at the wonderful local taverna, some time on the beach looking across at Turkey, and a ride to/from Molyvos on the local bus (brand new, clean coach with drivers speaking very good English) for €1.80 each we loved it.

The site is in a very bad state. A disgrace to see such a nice spot that I have visited years ago see so poorly taken care of. The house and changing rooms area is deserted and closed. The pool dome itself is in a very poor state and dirty.

Het bad wordt niet meer onderhouden. De hygiëne is slecht. De uitstraling is vies en onaantrekkelijk. De weg er naar toe weinig toegankelijk voor mensen die slecht ter been zijn. Kortom geen aanrader.

Not worth visiting…….unless you intend to bathe in the waters. It was not what I expected as it is a rather scruffy indoor pool. (See photos). Fortunately we had a nice bus ride and a good walk along the coast road.

Very poor, I know they wanted to keep it original but we visited yesterday. Very grotty and unclean.
The water was red hot as we’d read online but a bit dangerous getting into the sea first to cool off etc. Not possible if unsteady on the legs which is why people go there

Are the springs open 24/7 or there are opening hours? Are the spring and the spa the same? Or the spring is jjust an open natural pool?

I don't think that the hot springs are open 24/7. The spring and the spa are the same. The spring is located in a cave like room. You have to bend down to enter. The pool/spring acommodates about 8 people at a time, but this is not really a problem because it is so hot that people are alternately getting in and staying a few minutes before getting in the sea and then coming back to the spring..

NOT naked - you are expected to wear your swim suit / trunks / bikini.
They do hire out towels - we think it may have been a couple of euros.

Can anone tell me how accessible the spring are please. My mum is 82 and walks with a stick. Would she be able to get there fairly easily? Uneven ground is a bit difficult for her. Thank you!

Not recommended. The path in is both wet and uneven - with help this may be ok. You can park pretty close (or be dropped by taxi) but it'd be at least 20metres to get inside. She likely wouldn't manage the traditional baths due to the wet, uneven floor and lack of handrails and that the pool itself is only waist height - you are supposed to lie down in it.
The private pools may be slightly better but she'd need to be able to step over the relatively high wall into the pool or onto a smaller step to then step over into the pool. Equally she'd need to lie down in the pool unless she only wants to get her legs wet and be comfortable getting up again from a wet (but not particularly slippy) pool. There are no hand rails but there is a non-slip bath mat outside the pool.

The springs are in the other side of the island near the beautiful town of Molivos. You need an hour or more to get there by taxi and must make sure someone will pick you back on time since it's a remote area. You might also have to wait some time before your turn comes up to use the natural spring. If it's for a one day visit I would not recommend it.
