Limited appeal

Only a small area hs been exp[osed . Given its size and importance there is not much to see and facilities are limited . You are able to view the site from the road to appreciate its layout in a few minutes

Fascinating ruins

We visited on a chilly December afternoon. Very helpful EH staff, who explained the site and gave us the audioguides to use. There are plenty of useful information boards around the site too. Unfortunately the museum is currently closed. The “Old Works” and bathhouse are the most interesting (and recognisable) of the ruins, but there are remnant walls of other parts of the Roman city too. You can also cross Watling Street (one of the main Roman routes in Britannia, which linked Dover to Wroxeter via London) to view the Roman townhouse (reconstructed in 2010 with Channel 4) and to see the meagre remains of what was a huge forum. Definitely worth a visit if you are a history/archaeology fan.

Splendid remains of a huge Roman City. The largest roman wall left in the uk. Great audio guidebooks included in the price tell you exactly what you are looking at.

Excellent exposition of life in Roman Britain

Fascinating exhibition of artifacts in the small museum and excellent audio tour of the ruins. A Roman villa constructed nearby to demonstrate how they lived. But the best part of the visit was Rob who has an amazing enthusiasm for his position. And… when we were faced with a potentially serious problem whilst visiting he promptly stepped in to solve it. Resourceful guy and a delight to talk with. You will be glad you visit if you come here.

Step back in time

An interesting archaeological site covering a small part of the Roman City. The audio guide made a positive contribution to the visit as it helped to bring the place to life. There are useful information panels dotted around the site but the audio guide which is free adds to the information. There is a small museum on site which displays a range of Roman remains. There is also a reconstructed Roman homestead on the site.

Interesting historic site

I was one of the first arrivals of the day, and got a lovely welcome from the reception. You had the choice of the printed guidebook (£4.50) or a free audio tour (which you handed in on leaving) - I chose the guidebook.

The remains are fascinating, and there are helpful signs around the site telling you what you are looking at. That brought the experience to life.

Easy-ish to get to by public transport - the Arriva bus from Shrewsbury stops a few metres from the entrance (the only snag - it only runs every 2 hours).

Interesting Roman visit

It was a really interesting visit with a small museum, ruins of the bath house and reconstructed house. There was an audio guide (no children's version, but it still held my daughter's attention for some time). There were several picnic tables. A lovely spot to enjoy our picnic too.

Very interesting site

One of the most interesting Roman sites we have looked at. The ruins of the basilica and bathhouse is particularly interesting.
Reconstructed Roman house also interesting.
EH staf were helpful.

A pleasant trip round some roman ruins and a replica Villa. There’s a little museum attached as well. I think everyone could get something from this experience, although it is best combined with something else.
