I visited a farm while on a retreat with a group of people and we were introduced with many everyday spices that are grown on the farm. The highlight was seeing the huge lotuses and smelling and tasting the fresh flavor that we don’t normally get to experience with store bought spices. I highly recommend the tour to get in touch with nature!

This was an excellent experience. The interactive tour gives one a personal connection to the variety of botanicals there. The guides are clearly educated about and interested in the preservation of their natural resources. Their passion for nature created a lot of joy for the tour.

The tour through the spice farm was extremely interesting and informational. The guide gave us leaves and spices to smell and taste as we went. The tour was in a wagon made entirely of teak, and their restaurant, dining tables and chairs, and gift shop are also constructed entirely from native woods grown on site. Even the handrails are not industrial handrails, but are like home handrails with turned spindles. The woods are beautiful--loads of teak, but also rosewood, mahogany, and other exotic colors. They grow their own wood along with the spices. The food was excellent as well. The entire experience was top-notch.

We enjoyed this tour very much- finding it to be both informative and relaxing. The grounds are beautiful and the hands on approach to learning about the plants and spices was a lot of fun. Definitely would recommend making a stop here!

What a great place to visit . Garden and spice farm was just as described . Guide took us on tractor which was loaded from a purpose built platform as shop/ restaurant area and we travelled the grounds . Guide was exceptional . He really knew his stuff . They would just stop and go to the trees and pull off something for us to look at and try . The raw unprocessed chocolate was something I never thought I would try . Many thanks for a great visit

We visited the spice farm and garden in November 2022. We learned a great deal about the spices cultivated as we touched and smelled many varieties as we toured the property with guides. As an added bonus, they prepare and sell local dishes. The farm is a very pleasant excursion to enjoy the unique beauty of Belize.

I didn't know what to expect. We went following a visit to
Nim Li Punit (nearby Mayan ruins) and decided to go last minute since we had already driven there.
The trip was definitely worth it. We are food enthusiasts, but our understanding of food and ingredients usually started with their appearance at the store. We learned so much about spices -- including tasting raw pepper off the vine (not that spicy!), allspice, turmeric, lotus seeds, cocoa seeds, etc. Definitely worth the $20 USD admission.
If I can offer one suggestion -- decline their offer to use essential oils as bug spray during the tour. I wish we would have used deet to keep the insects from biting.

Well, it was such a pleasure to return to the Spice Farm. During the time since the last visit, I had, actually, ordered roasted cacao beans and roasted coffee for my company, The Spanish Main Traders, and was looking forward to meeting the owner, Doctor Mathew Thomas and his, lovely, wife. We had lunch and got to know each other, in person. A very pleasant experience. We, also, met Magdeleno, who is who I transacted with. I can't recommend this excursion, enough. The tour of the botanical gardens is extraordinary. We were on a Norwgian Cruis excursion, when I first heard of the place, so we did the same excursion this last time.

We had a great private tour around the farm. It was really interesting trying lots of the spices in their raw form and seeing how the different things grow. If you are looking for something besides snorkeling/diving in Belize this is a really interesting diversion.

If you're fascinated by spices and their origin, this is the place. Although you're going to drive a bit to get there, it is well worth the time. Where else could you go to gain an understanding of spices such as nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon, pepper corns, and more. All of those tropical spices in your pantry start in the rainforest, and observing and tasting them in their natural state is a fascinating proposition. Cool off with a soda or water then take a walking or riding tour. You'll see vanilla beans, cacao, coconut, orchids, coffee plants and so much more. The BSF is a treat for the senses and highly recommended. What a pity their food in the restaurant is truly awful. All that stunning produce and both meals we had their were terrible.

Got bit several times at the Spice Farm tour
I got bit by a black flying insect several times. We did bring bug spray with us but I forgot to put some on. We sat in the back of the tractor ride and our daughter who was carrying the bug spray sat in the very front while we went through the tour and I kept feeling something bite my ankles I would look down and see a black flying insect. I tried to shake my legs as to not cause a scene and scream and ruin the tour for everyone but it kept coming back to bite. This ruined the trip for me as all I could focus on was my ankles as if I took my eyes off for a minute and I stopped shaking my legs I would get bit again. Now 2 weeks later I have these swollen bites that are uncontrollably itchy. Can someone tell me what bit me so I can look up how to treat the bites?

Hi
Black little (very tiny) insect may be sand fly mostly seen in sandy beach area. We have Dr flies (like horse fly in US) not too much sand fly. It is seasonal.
I think a mild hydrocortisone cream (0.25 %) may help.
If infected ,may need antibiotics. Sorry this happened .How can I make it up to you
We are considering this tour in April - part of the NCL Ship. I read that the tour includes a lot of walking and stairs. Are the 100 steps that the fine print mentions all at once ? We are a group of 4 and one of the ladies has not great knees. Just want to know exactly how much climbing is needed etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
