Маленький буддийский храм по правую руку, пасущиеся яки, мало людей, горы, поля, лес, озерцо в низине. Если бы не проложенные тропинки, вполне сошло бы за внеземной пейзаж)

Yak Meadow was one of the best things I’ve done in China. So glad I made the effort. It takes a while to do the round trip and I could imagine bad weather could impact the experience, but on the day I went, it was magic.
You have to go to a different ticket office to purchase the 20RMB bus ride and 60RMB cable car ticket. There can be a wait for the bus as they like to fill it up. In the end there were four us. The bus ride is exhilarating in itself. Hairpin bends. Incredible views. About half an hour. Cable car is slow - at least 20 minutes, but you see the occasional mountain goat.
Once at the top there’s a boardwalk that takes you across the Meadow. I took the route towards the temple and beyond. The temple itself is lovely. I walked about 1800m (flat and then a gradual ascent) when I came across the yaks. The backdrop of the black mountain, glaciers and clouds is stunning. There’s an arrangement of Tibetan prayer flags to add to the beauty.
There were about 10 other tourists up there. Very peaceful. Next time I go, I am taking a picnic lunch and budgeting a couple of hours to soak it all in. If you were lucky enough for it to be perfectly clear, it would be even more amazing.
There was a 10 minute wait for the bus to fill up, before the drive back.
It is an experience that requires patience, but the reward is worth it.

After a 15 minutes ride on a glorified chairlift one reach Yak Meadows. Nothing exceptional, but nevertheless quite nice. You can take a couples of hours walk up to the top, weather permitting or just hang around an admire the views.

Most tourists opt to visit the glacier at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. However, the lines are long and it is common to spend two hours in line waiting for a cable car to the top. When we arrived at the cable car for Yak Plain, we immediately caught the cablecar to the top, and began walking across the plain to the summit of a hilltop overlooking Jade Mountain. When we reached the top, the fog parted and we saw the mountain revealed with tendrils of fog playing around its base. It was a delighful experience.

The overview is splendid, if the weather is good. It was a little chilly but nothing worth mention. The pasture is rather drab, not much appeal and the area seems to have enjoyed better days as it is very neglected I did not appreciate the pasture but I did the views

Although a little off the beaten track, worthwhile to see as it is not over crowded and the old, slow double chair cable car gives a nice romantic feeling. Once up at the top one should take a walk up to the Tibetan monastery.(approximately half an hour)

I am writing this partly because we were totally confused by all the other reports we read on the various attractions at Youlong [Jade Dragon] Snow Mountain.
Our experience only extends toYak Meadow , which in Wikitravel is said to be 60 km from the other venues. This is nonsense (at a guess it might be 6 km).
On entering the park area one has to pay a 105 yuan entrance fee, plus 80 yuan for the Lijiang visitor ticket if you don't have one already. One is then driven to the main car park area and visitor centre where you buy a ticket for the particular site you wish to visit. Yak and Spruce Meadow tickets were sold at one location, so logic dictates that those for the main cable car are sold at a kiosk elsewhere in the complex.
At the kiosk one buys a ticket for the gondola of choice - 80 yuan return in the case of Yak Meadow - and a ticket for the bus to get one there (another 20). One then queues to get on the bus, save that very few people go to Yak Meadow so it's simply a case of waiting for the first bus that goes there.
The bus takes about half an hour or so to get to the cable car, and one aspect that none of the guides tell you is that the bus waits for you and you travel back on the same bus, typically after two hours.
Now the gondola up the mountain is the slowest I've ever come across (taking over 20 minutes for little more than 300m in height) - I've been on faster button lifts - but it's a pleasant enough journey provided it's a fine day and no wind (as the cabins are open). If it's not a fine day then don't waste your money...
All this means that you're only left with 45 minutes or an hour max up at the top. The temple is charming and there is a circular boardwalk which you can do in the time if you're a tri-athlete or otherwise rush, but at tourist pace isn't really practicable. I was told I didn't have time (and that the views weren't too dissimilar anyway) but did it on principle, although if truth be known the bit about the views is true, so don't feel you're missing out if you prefer to take your time pottering around at the top and soaking up the mountain air.
On the way back the bus stopped at the bus station by the river at the turn-of to Spruce Meadow and everyone got off. We followed, which was a BIG mistake. I am still not sure what should have happened but in hindsight we should have stayed on unless physically thrown off, on the basis that we had paid to be taken back to the main visitor centre. We still don't know what arrangements the other passengers were making - they all disappeared in golf- buggy style vehicles to look at the falls - but as far s we could tell they would then have to join the massive queue of Spruce Mountain visitors waiting for a bus back. We decided to cut our losses by accepting a rather forceful invite to take a taxi-bus back to the centre, albeit this culminated in an argument as to what fare had been agreed and somewhat took the edge off our day!
All in all it can't be said to be value for money, but it was a gorgeous day weather-wise and we're glad we did it.
