On second attempt I reached Thambi View Point which was awesome, I enjoyed very much. If you get clear sky you have to spend one hour for taking snaps. One side view of silk route and another side wide range of Mt. Kanchanjungha. You can view the range in different angle. There are a small momo shop. Chicken & veg momo were very good.

I had gone for family trip to east Sikkim in first week of May. My 8 year old and around 70 old parents included.

This year Jan got minimal snowfall and Feb had almost nil. It only started the night before we reached Rongli. News of rain and heavy nightlong snowfall already reached and we got permit no far than Thambi.

Next day we started around 830 AM from padamchen. Soon after crossing Zuluk, snow glazed zig zag roads appeared. As we ascended, mist became too dense and snow increasingly heavy on both sides of the road.

On reaching Thambi, nothing was visible around. It was snowing and we had to stop. For our 8 year old, it was his first tryst with snow and mist. A nice shack provides some cover with tea and momos. We spent around 1.5 hrs in Thambi and came back to Padamchen at 1 PM.

Our driver sahib, Mingma Tamang, was fantastic in dealing with the road laden with snow and poor visibility. When you are in East Sikkim, you can try his Bolero and reach him at 89722 46708.

Part of Silk Route

We visited second week of March, but at that time Gnathang Vally was closed due to heavy snow falls. They were giving permission till Thambi view point. After listening, our mood was off. Maximum couldn't reach Thambi view point because cause of risk and weather was not in favour. Due to good driving we reached the point. But cloud erased the landscape. Therefore we couldnot view himalayan range, but we enjoyed with snow very much. If you want to go Gnathang, Old baba mandir and Kupup lake, so May is the best option to visit but you may not find snow.

Breath taking view.

Although there was no snow around but the scenatic beauty was breath taking.loved the weather but we missed a cup of coffee as there wasn't available.

Excellent place to get a beautiful view of Kanchenjunga during sunrise. The silk route looks amazing from this point.

Thambi View Point - Amazing Place

Visited during this Oct'19. Climate was bit cloudy, but that did not prevent us from enjoying the scenic beauty of septentine roads of Zuluk. So called silk route. From this place we can able to view variuos mountain range.

Excellent View of the Kanchenjunga with the perfect view of the SILK ROAD 99 turns. Its worthy to come here and see the beauty . You will also find various Rhododendron types and Various Species of Birds with your Tele Lenses On. On Bright ans sunny day you will able to see the Full range of the Kanchenjunga . You will also see the Snow Capped Silk route roads leading to Old Baba Mandir and Gantok form here.

Thambhi view point visit...April..2019

Visited this spot on 23rd & 24th April this year (2019). Not lucky to see anything on 23rd due to cloud...but on 24 th morning seen great Kanchandzongha with all it's glory. Zig Zag route was also clearly visible from there as well from Zig Zag view point. Start early at 4am if you want to visit Sun rise view point at Lungthung if you are staying at Zuluk (with an extra cost of 1500 per car). During time of return seen a Monal bird also spotted by our driver Kailash (8436512350). Our another Silk rout driver who drove us to Sillerygao was also good (Mahesh)(9635907708). Both are very friendly & honest...knowledgeable with amicable behaviour. They helped us
enjoying the whole tour with great joy.

A Panoramic View Point

Thambi View Point is in between roads of Silk Route to
GNathang Valley. If it is not foggy there will be mesmerizing view. The View of the Zick Zack Roads from Zuluk to Gnathang is just heavenly but if you are lucky enough and there is no fog in the area. We had to wait for 1 hour in Thambi to get that view.
A must go in a clear day.
