Nice easy walk from parking lot, Volunteer inside shares information on construction, operation and history.
Walk down to end of water chute and look back very unique vs many I have seen with the wheel pulling up water.
They do sell some jams/jellies if interested.

My wife & I recently visited this historic site. Built in 1886 the grist mill uses a water powered turbine instead of a water wheel to grind corn & power all the machinery in the building. There was also a miller on site demonstrating the grinding of the corn into cornmeal. Answered questions & gave a very informative presentation. The cornmeal is also available to purchase. Located 1/2 mile North of the Oconaluftee Visitor Center on US 441. Ample parking. Restroom on site. From the parking lot it is a short walk along a natural terrain trail to the mill. Open daily.

Just minutes from the visitors center. Free to visit this well preserved historic mill with good paved parking & only a short easy walk. The guide was helpful & you can see grain ground. Nice place to take photos

Great visit to the mill. It is interesting seeing how our ancestors ground corn and products at the mill. The day we visited there was a nice man at the mill to answer questions. Great place to learn some history.

Mingus mill is a nice little mill not too far inside the eastern boundary of Smoky Mountains NP. There is a small stream diverted into an overshot mill wheel. They grindstones are still in place and the concept is that they still work. While they do work the ground corn you can buy in the mill is actually ground in another historic mill in the park and not here.
Still it's a nice break from other parts of the park, Has nice bathrooms and a decent picnic area along with a short 50 yard walk to the mill from the parking area.

Mingus Mill transports visitors back in time to show how things used to be and provides them with a unique opportunity to create everlasting new memories. It's easy to access and the natural beauty surrounding the mill is amazing.

this is one of the mills in the Smoky mountain area, but this one is good to visit, you can walk very close to the mill, you can even touch the water on the waterway in the upper stream, some people cool their feet in the water. some people also take graduation picture there. It is located on the Newfound gap road, near the Oconaluftee visitor center

When we arrived there were no other visitors and the mill was closed. However, we enjoyed the trails and outside the mill. Look forward to going back and exploring the trails and mill more.

I really liked this 1886 grist mill, along with its still-functional sluice, turbine, and other machinery. Accessing it from the parking lot wasn’t intuitive though, as we ran into several families who were wandering down a trail across the river. In fact, it’s about 100 yards from the parking lot, and the combined history and beauty is striking.
While needing repair in sections, the Mingus Mills is nonetheless an historic artifact from the 19th century, when farmers brought their corn and wheat for milling. The gristmill’s stone was turned by a water-powered, cast-iron turbine at 11 horsepower which was plenty for running the mill’s machinery. On the floor above, wheat grain was blown free of debris and separated into different grades by sifting through fine to coarse cloth.
At its resting site in the Great Smoky Mountains, we were able to walk alongside the gristmill’s 200-foot-long wooden flume which brought water to the turbine 200 years ago. The house structure was pretty much intact, but even though there was a man inside managing the space, and even though there were vast open windows practically allowing for as much air circulation as outside, he claimed COVID prevented him from letting us inside.
Really interesting site for Cherry Wonderdog, and probably one you’ll enjoy, too.

We were here a number of years ago. From Cherokee you have to drive 20 + miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway to visit this Mill. No tours inside to see it operating I’m sure from Covid…Call ahead
