The fort - 1880s police - is very well kept and has an interesting museum. The cafe was excellent and the other facitlies (like the very good gift shop) well worth a look.
We ate in the open air and it was a very pleasant and tranquil experience in lovely surroundings.

We headed here, directly from arriving in Durban on an early Sunday morning.
Interesting small town, breakfast was taken at the local new mall(safe to park) and then we drove to the fort.
Very friendly welcome which then turned into a personal tour of the museum, chapel and fort, thank you. So much historic information here, the Norwegian influence, the Zulu chieftain's and of course the relationship between the British and Zulu homeland.
An excellent craft/culture centre of which the lady provided so much very interesting culture with passion, a true delight.
Toilet facilities, good cafe/shop and a save heaven to explore.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Well worth the small fee.

A great surprise! Worthwhile visiting! It is really a typical fort of the late 1880's. Great restaurant.

We visited the Dlinza Forest and then came to Adam’s Outpost for lunch. Such an asset to the area! The museum is informative, the restaurant’s food is excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday outing.

We had lunch at the restaurant. The food was tasty, and the setting next to the old fort is peaceful. The place is well looked after. The staff were also very friendly. The curio shop is actually good and has interesting books on sale.

A visit to Eshowe without visiting this fort is incomplete. 3 museums to visit. How ever when I went the butterfly museum was closed. The other two were good, one housed the Zulu crafts. Was very beautiful and creative. The guy there explained the significance. The other had to do with the Zulu wars. Chiefs etc. a lovely little chapel is found here and a curio shop, also a restaurant on site. Very historical.

There is nothing new in the world. When this fort was built the state did not have money to build the fourth tower, so the fort only has 3 towers. The museum gives a good overview on the history of the area and the period.

I was hired by Mthonjaneni Municipality for the Full Two Day Tour as their Tourist Guides. A very fascinating day with all Councilors left with their mouth wide open, amazed about my knowledge on our history, Zulu- Anglo wars sites in and around Zululand. My speciality of the day was to showcase the importance of our Heritage sites, Birding paradise of Dlinza Aerial Boardwalk with a variety of bird species dominated by calls of Purple Turacos and Palm Nut Vultures soaring high above this old indigeneous forest. Lastly pay a visit to Shakaland for Lunch and experience the Zulu culture first hand experience in the Village.

Built in the middle of the Dlinza Forest in Eshowe round about 1883, Fort Nongqayi housed about 90 barefoot Zulu police (known as the Nongqayi or 'restrainers')who moved into the building to maintain law and order in Zululand on behalf of Britain after the Anglo-Zulu war. Today the fort functions as part of Zululand's biggest museum village.
