The bioluminescence tour with the kayaks was absolutely unique! Directly on arrival we were greeted very friendly and our guide has prepared and explained us very well for everything. The water sparkled with every move and it was magical. Absolutely recommend, we had a wonderful evening there!

Amazing experience (even though it was apparently not the best of time of the year for bioluminescence) and great fun for the whole family - not least due to our very knowledgeable and super friendly guide!

Excellent! Thank you for your comment. It is good here all year but you want to try to stay away from the upcoming full moons as the nights will not be 100% dark.

Absolutely incredible. Not sure why this isn't #1 on things to do list. We choose a new moon and were worried about rain. The rain that did fall lit up the algae. Seeing the bottom of the kayaks glow will be a long term memory.

Beautiful excursion, Juan the guide is very professional and is passionate about his job. He is an open book of information all on his own. He left us first as the whole group diving with family or friends. Then, 2nd round waited for the other boats to move away and showed us his hidden spots. We saw turtles, starfish, baby sharks and etc...Atypical tasting of scallops and oysters from the local merchant. Well organized, hearty lunch. Free time, relaxation, swimming on the island of Tortuga. We hope to see him again next time for the bioluminescence excursion when we next come. Thanks again to the whole team.

The Biolumenesent tour was a super special experience.
My family of 4 and I really enjoyed our time. Our guide Jose was informative and the owner Vicki was helpful with our inquiries for recommendations on taxi services following the tour.
We learned that they do Ocean clean up during the day, which we appreciated. If time permits we would like to help!

What an amazing day. I really can’t say enough good things about Bahia Rica. Or tour guide, Juan, was an absolute wealth of information! Such a happy guy, and just made the day. We were lucky enough to have the boat to ourselves, a couple. We say rays, turtles, spider monkeys, pigs on Tortuga Island and just a ton of fish as we snorkelled in two locations. Had fresh scallops served boat side and then an amazing lunch cooked by the talented Carolina. The day was the definition of PURA VIDA!

Fabulous experience! Being only 4 people - my wife and I plus another couple made it feel like a private boat tour. Our captain, Juan, spoke fluent English and gave us a great tour of the Gulf of Nicoya, making stops and pointing out picturesque beaches, rock formations and spider monkeys! He timed our snorkeling so that most of the other boats were gone, and we had it all to ourselves to enjoy the beautiful marine life in the clear turquoise water. Juan also showed us a few turtles swimming around. The lunch on the island in a private shaded area prepared by Carolina was delicious, healthy and filling, with yummy local dessert and coffee included. We ordered and enjoyed Coco Loco, which was refreshing and tasty. Excellent job of the whole team and the owners, 5 out of 5 stars! Highly recommend Bahia Rica!

This was an awesome experience and would highly recommend to anyone. Our guides were safety conscious and very knowledgeable about the science behind the bioluminescence. Jose was our guide and he was fantastic. A little canoeing or kayaking experience is helpful. A solo participant had no kayaking experience so they were put in a double kayak with our guide.

Such a fun day on the boat! Our tour guide was wonderful, and made sure to show us different islands and kept a look out for dolphins, sea turtles and whales. The lunch was amazing and Tortuga Island was beautiful. Would highly recommend definitely worth it!

HI there, my husband and I would like to book a full day Kayak tour ending with the bioluminescent waters for April 14th. Do you have availability and what's the best way to book for that extended tour? We've tried emailing but didn't hear back. thank you so much.

Hi Jennifer,
Good of you to contact us here. We have received your emails (one about the kayak tours and one about the lodging). We did answer, but it seems like you did not get our emails (or maybe they went into your spam folder - it happens from time to time).
Anyway, we do have availability on both the full day tour kayaking and on the bioluminescent night kayak tour on April 14th.
They are two separate tours though, with different guides. So practically it mean that you will be back from the full day kayak tour at about 4pm, and then have to bea ready again at about 6pm to go out on the bio night kayak tour.

Hi, we are located 1,5 hour from Montezuma. 1,5 km from the Paquera ferry landing.
The tour starts at 18:00, so you should aim at being here latest at 17:45.
Just wanted to comment on how to get to Bahia Rica from the Paquera ferry landing if you have your own car:
When you get to the Paquera ferry laning, you have to turn to the right onto a dirt road. Sometimes it is a bit hard to see that it is a road because of the cars lined up to get on the ferry. You have to drive about 1,5 km on this gravel road (you’ll see a couple of small signs with the Bahia Rica logo on along the road). You will pass a sign your left hand that says Bahia Rica Guesthouse. Do NOT stop here. Continue down the hill, and past some houses until you see another sign that says Bahia Rica Tours. Park next to this sign. From there you have to walk a little trail (about 200 meters) to get to the beach where we start the tour from.
Remember to bring a flash light as it is dark along the path. Also bug spray is very handy to have!
The last part of the road is not in good condition – 4WD recommended!
