Costa Rica Sailing Center is a must stop if you are visiting the Guanacaste Province or plan to live anywhere near the town of Potrero. The youth sailing program has changed my teenage sons life! He was hooked on sailing from the first lesson and cannot imagine sailing anywhere else. He now prefers to be sailing rather than on his electronic devices!!
In addition to youth and adult sailing lessons, there are multiple affordable options for private sailing, catamaran and fishing tours. If you are an experienced sailor you can rent dinghy boats or small catamarans by the hour. You can also rent a Kayak or SUP if you just want to enjoy being on the water without sailing.
The friendly locals and vibrant atmosphere is infectious at the Costa Rica Sailing Center. Not only can you enjoy time on the water but the BEST sunsets happen on this beach! One visit here and you will be back!!

Our family spends many hours every week at the sailing center. Our son takes group lessons with the Youth Sailing Program 3x a week and he's never been more excited about anything in his life! I've recently started adult small group, and private lessons as well. The staff is fantastic! The instructors and owners are knowledgeable, patient, and kind-hearted. The sailing center is a vital hub of this community for locals and tourists alike.

We had a great sunset sail with Daryush and Gerald. We saw dolphins and a bunch of blue footed boobies flew along side the boat and landed on it. Both my sons got to steer the boat and help with the sails. They also got towed behind the sailboat on a line. The wind was perfect for sailing and the sunset was beautiful between the islands. It was a great 4 hour sail.

What a gem -- this place is an amazing place to spend an evening, a day or a week.
The heart and soul of Potrero, it is not to be missed on any visit.
Besides having the best view of the sunset in Potrero, they run an amazing Kids Sailing Program (drop ins welcome), adult sailing classes, and rent boats, kayaks, and SUPS. Their fishing trips are top notch as are all of their events.
There is no better way to spend a Friday sunset than watching the boats come in, the sun go down, enjoying a drink or a meal next door from Hemmingways.

On our family visit to Potrero we spent quite a bit of time exploring through the Sailing Center. The staff (Justin and Erica) were incredibly helpful and welcoming and the guides (Capi and Danny) were extremely personable and experienced.
We rented kayaks and did a fishing trip. We caught so much fish and the little restaurant next to it (Hemmingways) was able to cook our fish for us in a few different preparations (poke, sliders, and fried) that were all great!!
On the fishing trip we saw loads of turtles, rays leaping and twirling over the water, and a pod of dolphins. Totally worth it!!
Thank you to all at the sailing center, you really made our stay in Potrero amazing!!

My 6 year old did 2 weeks of the summer camp and loved it! She doesn't speak Spanish and had very little experience with swimming in the ocean but by the end of the week she had learned a few words in Spanish and was comfortable playing in the ocean and going on boats (the camp counselors speak english too!). We will be coming back for summer camp next year! Thank you CRSC!

Our most favorite place in Potrero! We spent a lot of time here during our visit. It is right on the beach, and we felt like family every time we were there. Definitely the best place in Potrero to catch the sunset! We rented kayaks one day and also had one of their great staff take us out on a catamaran sail for an afternoon. The kids could run around to their hearts content, swimming in the pool or in the ocean, and we could easily keep an eye on them while enjoying a drink and snack at the restaurant. Super laid-back atmosphere and chill vibe.

Had a great evening with Captain Justin and Danny. Sailing, snorkeling, a beautiful sunset, and delicious burritos made for a perfect end to our stay in Potrero. Would recommend to anyone coming to Potrero. Plus, the sailing center was a great spot to hang around all week even when we weren’t sailing!

The Costa Rica Sailing Center is our community hub! It is a great place for families that live in CR or those visiting! You can become a member for a very reasonable fee for a day, a week, a month or a year! Benefits of being a member include: discount at the restaurant, use of the club facilities, kayaks, SUPs, boogie boards, sailing lessons and boat rentals at discounted rates, and so much more!
We love that the CRSC is a very friendly, welcoming place. There are always smiles on employee faces! The sailing instruction is top notch and we (our whole family) have loved learning the lifelong skill of sailing! We enjoy leisurely sails, Sunday racing, and building our sailing skill knowledge.
They also offer sunset sailing cruises, snorkeling trips, fishing charters, kids after school sailing, and so much more! If it involves the water and you can dream it up, they can probably make it happen!
When in the Potrero/Surfside area, you must come down and check out the vibe the CRSC and Hemmingway's has to offer! Families, singles, couples, groups, dogs and anyone that wants to have a great time!!!

The CRSC has always made me feel so welcomed and at home. I have been to this part of Costa Rica many times and I keep coming back to Surf Side/Potrero so that I can spend lots of time at the CRSC. This is where I learned how to sail with my dog, Kayanne, and the reason I have the confidence to continue getting back out on the water on my own. I highly recommend making the CRSC a part of your trip to Costa Rica, or even planning a trip to Costa Rica just so you can check out the CRSC. Thanks to all of the smiling faces and big hearts at the CRSC. :)

I used to sail a lot, usually on quiet waters in the UK. I am now 70 years old and would like to enjoy sailing again. My preference would be a half deck type of boat and definitely not a dinghy (no capsizing for me please!). Would I be able to join someone in a vessel,of this sort? I expect to visit in late June

Yes they do have a larger sailboat which was very comfortable for four of us which we rented for an afternoon sail. The boat was sailed by one of the experienced guys who run the center and we were along for the ride which was great. One word of caution is that there are no docks. They bring a good sized motor boat to the shore and you board from the beach to be taken to the sailboat. Works fine in calm weather. A little rough getting out if the weather picks up like it did the day we went out but we all managed.

We aren't going to make it as far north as Potrero on our trip to Costa Rica. Does anyone know of a place to rent a small sailboat from Jaco and parts south - Hermosa, Estorillos, Quepos, Dominical, Uvita, even Drake Bay? If not a boat to take out ourselves, does anyone know of someone who would take just my wife and I out for a couple of hours on a small boat (not the large charters, party or tour boats)? Thanks for any ideas or suggestions!

A little late answering this one. But other folks might find this helpful. Actually, there are very few other rental locations for sailboats here in Costa Rica. You might try the Snipe Sailing Association in Caldera. They do have boats these days and are just beginning their program.
