Been coming to Hsinchu for a few years now and have always been looking for a bar and this last trip I finally found a whole street of bars!!! When I visited, most of the bars on the street were pretty dead except for Red so of course this is the one I decided to check out. I'm the guy that's usually checking out dive bars in the US, so this one was right up my ally.
Now, I wouldn't say the drinks are cheap, maybe if you're getting mixed drinks off of house alcohol, but I was drinking Johnnie Black and was charged 250NT per drink, which is definitely on the cheaper side compared to Los Angeles, however, the guy measured exactly 1.5oz pour which really annoyed me.
Anyways, I'll still come back. It's nice to hang out at the end of the night in an place where everyone speaks english and have a drink. Makes me feel like home away from home.
They don't serve food here, but there is a little food place right next door that will take your order and bring the food over to you, very convenient.

The Red, or "Red's", as I've heard it referred, is a grimy but lovable bar on a string of bars around the corner from Dongmen circle. The servers are always playful and happy to see you. The beer is among the cheapest in Hsinchu, and there is an outdoor patio area across the street where the staff will take your orders. It's loud and smokey, but there's usually a good crowd of people. Be careful when you exit the bathroom as the dart board is right there.

Everything that you'd want from a small bar where you can pick up relatively "cheap" drinks. A mix of young hip locals and expats of all ages. A dart board. The guys I was with tend to go here a lot, and from the stories I've heard manage to have alcohol-fueled great evenings there without busting the bank (based on that alcohol tends to be slightly expensive here in Taiwan in comparison to mainland Europe). They always seem to have specials on certain bottled lager beers and shots. We went on ladies nights and the cocktails were also only 100NT so I ordered a 'Sex on the Beach' to joke with the lads. I don't think it was what is traditionally known as a sexonthebeach cocktail, it was served in a martini glass and was just a fruity-alcohol concoction, but I enjoyed it. Everything in the bar is painted red, hence the name. You cannot miss it, on the small street it is situated on, as it glows red from a far. Nice little bar, with character, and slightly sticky floors :)
