The original temple was established in 1801. It was dedicated to Guanyin (觀音菩薩, Avalokitesvara), which is a branch spirit from Guanyin of the Lungshan Temple at Jin-Jiang county, Fujian province (福建省晉江縣龍山寺).
Longshan Temple at Jinjiang is the ancestral temple of many temples in Taiwan. For example, Bangka Lungshan Temple (at Wanhua, Taipei City), Lukang Longshan Temple, Tainan Longshan Temple, Fengshan Longshan Temple, ......, and this one. They served as temples of worship and gathering places for the Quanzhou (泉州) immigrants.
Like Bangka Lungshan Temple, this temple now worships gods of three religions: Buddhist, Taoist and Ruism (Confucianism).
It was rebuilt in 2000, became a large temple. Though lost the value of being a historical heritage, it really is a resplendent and magnificent temple.
Here, you can appreciate the beauty of Chinese architecture of temple.

Our 3 and seven year old grandchildren were so interested to look at wall carvings and paintings. They asked so many questions about the characters depicted, which kept my wife busy tell them the stories of these gods and priests.
It is a relaxing temple. Clean and attractive.

應該是林口區規模最大的廟宇，遠近馳名，有多條公車路線可到，停車場完備，宗教場所可自由參拜，台式廟宇風格，建築藝術有不少可看之處，走進本殿裡面富麗堂皇好不霸氣，拜完後可到正前方的公園走走。

這裡是香火鼎盛的佛寺，主祀觀音菩薩，陪祀文疏與普賢菩薩，兩側是道教諸神（天上聖母與關聖帝君）。旁有斗姆元君的太歲殿，樓上有地藏王菩薩、孔子、文昌與魁斗星君。
廟有自由樂捐的金香，也有餅乾購買處。
解簽室有很多經書可看，也有平安符與平安米可索取。
外面有公園，旁有公車可搭回台北與林口。

林口地區知名的寺廟，為林口居民的信仰中心，寺廟保留本省民間建築藝術的精華，木雕、石刻，不論鳥獸蟲魚、人物花卉、雕鏤得十分精緻典雅。諾大的園區非常用心整理，適合參拜後到園區走走逛逛，櫻花季節園區綻放整片艷紅十分美麗。

This was a really impressive temple full of reverent worshippers, yet photography was okay. It was impressive in design and very well maintained. The people were very nice and (our experience throughout Taiwan). This is NOT a tourist trap, my wife and I appeared to be the only non-locals, but I didn’t feel like I stood out as a tourist. But please be respectful and reverent as this is a place of worship just as a church would be in the USA.

春節將近也是竹林山觀音寺櫻花即將盛開季節，有多個停車場還是不夠虔誠心香客停車，主祀觀世音菩薩因蘆竹、林口、龜山、因地名取其一字而得名竹林山觀音寺。多年前往寺廟朝拜地域不大，真的有竹林寺的紛圍，改建後顯的較南方式現代建築，各有不同的氛圍莊嚴氣式。很適合全家前來朝拜感受菩薩的氣場，公園遊憩市集小吃，夏天還可到附近台電林口場品嚐有名的冰棒，觀音寺整體區域至少可休閒半天到一天的時間，秋冬建議要多穿衣服保暖，林口地勢較高常有霧氣氣溫偏低，年長者特別注意身體狀況。
