It is said to be the original katsuro, and black eggs filled with vacuum packs line the storefront. It seems to be named “kagami” because of its appearance, which is reminiscent of rusty iron, and the firmness with which it has been drained, but it is the result of repeated boiling of the added protein and does not contain any added iron. The food tastes slightly sour, but it never gets dried. It doesn't add to the richness of the egg despite its small size and firmness, but gives the impression of a braised egg with a dry texture. Once you've tried it, it's probably a good substitute.

到淡水遊玩最重要的行程，就是淡水老街了，除了阿香蝦捲、阿媽酸梅湯、許義魚酥，就是紅透全台灣的阿婆鐵蛋外。來淡水的朋友記得要買來試試，才知道正港的阿婆鐵蛋什麼味道。

小時候就喜歡每到淡水玩就要帶鐵蛋當點心伴手禮，很喜歡鐵蛋的醇香味道，這次帶外國友人也到此採購伴手禮，買得不亦樂乎。

The Iron egg is one of the specialty food originating from Tamsui. Another famous Tamsui local specialty food is A-gei.
"Iron egg" is egg that has been repeatedly stewed in a mix of soy sauce, crystal sugar and sometimes Chinese herbal medicine. The recooking and drying process resulted in shrunken egg that is dark and chewy. It is very flavorful compared to regular boiled eggs.
The original shop of "Iron eggs" has been closed, but its has become extremely popular, and is a must-try for every tourist.

從以前就知道這家，確實是老店，本地人大都偶爾買零買幾顆吃吃，後來淡水捷運通車後，名聲大噪，價格也水漲船高，鐵蛋風味甘醇咬起來比批發鐵蛋更硬，可能不是一般市面上大量包裝鐵蛋口感，與眾不同，也別有一番風味!
