Nice to see that the old church is finally getting a new roof on. Hopefully it will help to keep it safe for a few more centuries.
Its apparently been adopted by the local authority who have started the renovation work. Can't wait to see it intact again.
Keep up the Good Work.

Local people call this beautiful old church the 'Church of the Rath' as it was built originally on a still visible rath or ringfort. The early church was built by monks from the nearby Augustinan Drumlane abbey during the fourteenth century and was rebuilt by the (Scottish) Hamilton family Ulster Plantation settlers in the late 1600's The coat of arms on the gable wall is that of Sir Charles Hamilton who died in 1688 and was buried here. In around 1842 when a new Anglican church was built in the town the roof was removed from the old church and left to ruin. The graveyard has many interesting graves dating back to the eighteenth century. Visitors can freely walk around the old church and graveyard at any time and admire the unusual architecture and scenery thereabouts.

This church was built in 1688 by the Hamilton family as a place of worship. It replaced an earlier pre-formation church after which the town was named: Killeshandra - Cill na Sean Rátha - the Church of the old Fort.
The gates are open for visitors and lead the way to a small ruin. You can walk inside, and have a look at an information board providing lots of details about the history of this place. The graveyard in the back has mostly fallen to ruin, although there are some newere graves as well.
This old Church 'of the Rath' is a memorial of past times and an interesting place for anyone being interested in Ireland's history.
