可以说，新宿区是日本最繁忙的火车站，如果说不上世界范围的话！新宿站西侧，以东京都厅为中心，是一片商业办公区。东侧则是百货老店、电影院和剧院。新宿御苑最初是日本皇室的花园，每年三月和四月，因其是观赏樱花的好地方而颇负盛名。在新宿，许多餐厅通宵营业，并且在部分街区的后街，如“回忆横町”（记忆的小路）和“新宿黄金街”的后街上，小餐馆和酒馆林立，每家店主的品味与风格都各不相同。

我这次去日本是跟团的，所以说，其实并没有太多机会和日本人沟通交流。
东京都的话，我们是下了旅游大巴之后，走路到东京都。分成两列来排队。排队还真的排了好久啊。虽然它没有人流管制。可是光是排队，安检，那时间也花了好多。终于到了所谓的安检。把包打开，给安检大叔摸一摸 看一看也就完事儿了。
坐电梯上去大概是四十多层吧。整个东京的风光一览无遗。
很amazing的是，我在排队看vr双眼镜的时候，发现和我同团的团友，也在排队看。而她居然在用普通话和一对日本人在聊天？？？
好奇心满满的我，发现排在我后面的大哥，一看就是中国人哈哈哈哈，搭讪去了。发现这位大哥居然是博士，来日本是学术交流的。这位大哥从小在北京念书，但是却来了广州读博士。
说回让我惊讶的事情便是，那对日本夫妇，普通话溜得不行。我还以为他们是来过中国的日本人。可他们说他们并没来过中国。学中文都是因为和中国朋友一起学圣经???才学会的。这也太厉害了吧，两夫妇纯粹是因为喜欢中文，而把中文学的这么好，我真的惭愧...........
再说会这个vr双眼镜，它可以看到日本的过去，现在，未来，感觉日本人对未来的设想真的很美好.......到处是高科技，我感觉就是我小时候对未来的幻想...

我这次是为了过来办手续，不过再次感受了都厅的壮观。不愧是全日本最大的都市的政府大楼，整个建筑群和广场及中庭花园都很棒。我这次没有去展望台，不过我还是非常推荐去看一看，从展望台可以俯瞰整个东京。就连平日的晚上，展望台入口也在排队，所以如果想去，请尽量挑选平日，或预留好排队的时间。

这里的景色，和其他地方俯瞰东京的景色一样壮观，但是没有太多其他可看的。奥运会和残奥会的会旗以及到2020年的倒计时时钟，这比俗气的礼品店更有趣。大部分楼层实际上是被一家家餐馆占用的。记住，这里从新宿站过来，要走过一系列看似无穷无尽的地下广场，尽管它在地图上看起来很近。

这个在东京要做的最后一件事真是太棒了。景色非常棒，我们很幸运能够清楚地看到富士山。 免费的志愿者指南非常好。 餐厅看起来也很棒。 这是东京提供的很棒的免费服务。 提供奥运会和残奥会旗帜小幅展示的额外礼品也很棒。

以台湾的观点，住西尔顿酒店一定会来这里走走看看，旁边就是中央公园，是带小朋友出来走走的好地方，推荐！

指示很清晰，出地铁后步行大约八分钟便可到达， 搭电梯前需要接受行李检查， 很快便上到去， 可能周围的环境比较光（灯光），所以不觉得此处夜景美丽反而晴空塔旁的购物商场，可以乘电梯上31楼，都是免费的，可以观看更加美丽的夜景， 而且还有很多不同种类的餐厅可以坐下来，一路进食，一路欣赏夜景，餐厅费用不算贵相对， 反而东京都厅里的餐厅 非常昂贵，买手信的商舖也贵得离谱， 一去无防，不去也吧。 不过东京都听有一间员工餐厅，很多食物套餐都是1000yen以下， 不过要留意时间，关门是晚上八时，听闻不错，但我们去到时已关了。 有纪念印可以盖章留念。

What are the opening and closing hours/days of the observation deck in north and south tower? Id surely be doing only one tower, how long should i plan to spend?

Hours
North Observatory: 9:30 to 23:00
South Observatory: 9:30 to 17:30 (until 23:00 when North Observatory is closed)
Admission ends 30 minutes before closing time
Closed
North Observatory: 2nd and 4th Monday of each month (or next day if Monday is a national holiday)
South Observatory: 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month (or next day if Tuesday is a national holiday)
Both observatories: December 29 to January 3 (except January 1) and on occasional inspection days

The jr train is easy. Get off at Shinjuku station. It is a 10 minute walk to hotel from station. Very busy station. Ask the station attendants for directions and correct exit

As was said before just take the train and get off at shinjuku. Just remember that shinjuku station is enormous so make sure you take the exit on the same side as the building

Will the opening hours for the Observation decks be different during Golden Week 2019?

According to the website in Japanese as of April 14 it says it should be open. I would also check again with a tourism official since this year Golden Week is an aberration with many places being closed. Sorry if this didn't help. Normally it is open from 9:30-11:00 daily.

Absolutely. The TMG building is about a 15 min walk to the west of Shinjuku Station. If your hotel is on the same side then it’ll be easy. If your hotel is to the east of Shinjuku station then you need to allow extra time to get across as Shinjuku is one of Tokyo’s largest stations and it can be challenging just to get on the right side.
It took us about 30 mins from our hotel, Shinjuku Granbell, which is to the northeast of Shinjuku station. The TMG building viewing deck is free and worth a visit.

To visit the buildings themselves and have a tour of the government buildings that is accurate. But, the observation decks are open till late and run on a schedule which you can see on their website. Note that the south and north observation decks don’t open till late on the same nights and there is one day where one tower is completely closed depending on their schedules.

Both are good. (if I remember correctly) northern one is better in the evening/afternoon because of the sunset.

Trip advisor says Mon-Fri until 6.45pm but .japan-guide.cm for example says North Observatory: 9:30 to 23:00 South Observatory: 9:30 to 17:30. Can anyone confirm the correct opening hours? I'm guessing the non TA times as I've seen people talk about going at night.

Hi, this information is provided from the official Tokyo Metropolitan Government building website:
South Observation Deck: 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (until 10:30 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month)
North Observation Deck: 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.
Closed on 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month (South Observation Deck)
2nd and 4th Monday of each month (North Observation Deck). If there is a national holiday on one of those days, the observation desk will open on that day, but will be closed the following day.
Hope this helps! The night view at the North deck just opposite Hyatt Regency hotel is a must go if you are in Tokyo and the good thing it's free! 😉
