Wow! Butterflies galore! We ate at the lower picnic area. There is a bathroom there. The river is near the picnic area and has a gravel area to put your chair in so you can watch the kids play in the water. We had the place to ourselves! It was the perfect day!

I have been to the Smoky Mountains about 30 times in my life. But I have never come to Greenbriar before. It's off the beaten path, yet it is very accessible from Gatlinburg, off a main road. The creek babbles, and the restrooms are clean.

We were heading this way for an ATV tour and had some extra time so decided to explore this area. Really beautiful drive along the river to a nice quiet picnic area. Another road branches off for a hike to falls, but we didn't have enough time for that one. Saw a couple of deer as we drive through. A very nice morning drive.

We decided to try to visit the Greenbrier Picnic area this summer while on vacation. We drove out to Greenbrier and made the turn to head towards the picnic area. Here the road follows along beside the river. Once we entered the park, we passed a couple of areas where you could park and walk down to the river. Finally we came to an opening with what appeared to be a private residence. Here the road narrowed and there was a sign that vehicles larger than a pickup should not proceed. We witnessed 2 vehicles back down this road after attempting to proceed up the road towards the picnic area. We decided not to attempt the narrower road to the actual picnic area and instead turned around and went back to one of the scenic pull-offs. Here we parked and made our way down to the river. We probably spent at least an hour here playing in the river at an area where there was sort of a flat beachy area to hang out. The water was cold, but we enjoyed our time there. We saw lots of butterflies, damselflies and even some small fish in the water.
Overall, we enjoyed our visit at Greenbrier even though we did not make it all the way back into the picnic area. I would recommend and will probably venture back out here again on our next trip to the Smokies.

Small parking lot but serveral nice picnic tables and grills on level gravel pads. Outdoor restrooms available which were very clean and not stinky. Short walk to river and exceptional views of the water rushing around the big rocks in the river. Water to cold in March to experience wading across the river.

I've been going to Greenbrier as far as I can remember and it's my most favorite place in the world. It brings me peace. Ramsey Cascades is beautiful hike. The falls are worth the hike. I wish they would repair roads going into parks entrance. The road is more potholes than road.

Beautiful fall colors and colors in the streams. Less crowded than Cades Cove. Midday the sun shines on the streams and gives you wonderful color for abstract pictures.

This section of the park is a lot less crowded than the more popular spots. There are a lot of areas to pull over and enjoy the river. We drove to the picnic area then walked upstream a bit. It was heaven! We traveled to this area three times during the week we were in the area. The water is cold but you get used to it. I highly recommend some type of water shoe as the rocks are very slick.

The Little Pigeon River runs along the road and has several spots you can park and go play in the river. Picnic tables are available as well as hiking trails. Porters Creek Trail takes you to Fern Branch Falls Waterfall. Very nice place for families to visit.

We loved this out of the way park in the Smoky Mountain National Park. A local told us about it and it was well worth the trip, we even went back a second time late at night. I took some great pictures of the creeks with water cascading over the rocks. The trail at the end of the road was an easy walk. There were a number of people sunning themselves on the rocks and splashing in the creek. It was a quiet place not overrun by tourists.

We are taking a trip next month and this place looks enjoyable for the kids. However, I am not able to find directions to get to this place from Sevierville. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi! I am driving up to Seveirville next week and wanting to find some nice swimming holes/waterfalls for my kids. This one looks very good, but I am having a hard time finding an address to get directions from our cabin. The one on this site the map does not recognize.
