Interesting view of the pools
2021年7月
Looking down at the series of pools in the gulch from the trail along the edge was interesting -- the green of the jungle foliage contrasting with the water.

A snooze
2021年4月 • 夫妻情侣
I’ve been here years ago when you could swim. Yesterday it was gated off and the view was nothing. Looked like a series of muddy ponds. And it’s not sacred at all- that’s just a marketing ploy. But, the warnings about gray sharks are real.

Warning- they locked us in the park at 5:05 pm!
2020年12月
A warning to people arriving later in the day to the national park where the pipiwai trail and o’heo pools are located- while Hawaiians may be lax casual about how fast they serve you lunch (a reason why we arrived after 3pm to the park to start our hike- due to eternal wait for our lunch near Hana) - the park rangers locked the park gates at 5 on the dot. We were hiking back from the bamboo forest (halfway of trail) and got back at 5:05 only to find that 8 cars had been locked in the park with no exit available. There were signs noting a 5pm closure- but seriously- no 15 minute grace period??? After half an hour of waiting- one of the cars fortunately has a tool kit and used it to take the gate off the hinges so we could exit. As soon as that happened someone in a pickup truck and without a park uniform showed up and tried to block our exit from the park. We pushed our way out anyway- but what I am not sure of is whether this is some sort of local scam to “save the tourists” and try to get a tip by them opening the gate- or if these people were really part of the park and coming back at a later time to teach the tourists a lesson??? Either way- unacceptable. So beware and make sure you are out of the park at the absurd 5pm closing time.

Even more impressive upstream
2019年8月 • 夫妻情侣
The Seven Sacred Pools are actually closed more often than you’d think, so if that’s your main reason for going then you might want to call ahead. However, you can still view them from above on a very short trail. And the main reason you should be coming here is actually for the incredible Pīpīwai Trail... the gulch is just a bonus.

Wonderful hikes and beautiful waterfalls
2020年3月 • 夫妻情侣
Neat park with remarkable views — two hikes — one short and one longer — both so fantastic and both two of the best hikes on the planet — longer hike culminates in the most beautiful waterfall I have seen with 2-3 more on the way. The shorter one has beautiful views of coast and the waterfalls close to road

Short hike with great views for all
2020年2月 • 夫妻情侣
The trail to see Ohe’o Gulch, actually called the Kuloa Point Trail, is a 1/2 mile loop trail that takes you out to where the Palikea stream meets the ocean. From there you see the mouth of the gulch with it’s surf and rocks to your right, and the Pools of Ohe’o, known as the Seven Sacred Pools, to your left. The trail leaves from the left side of the Kipahulu Visitor Center. We went counter clockwise and it is pretty level out to the point. There is a side trail that goes down along the edge of the gulch at that point, and it’s where you get your best views and pictures. Be careful at that point as it does drop off. The views here are great. We continued following the trail in the same direction, heading back towards the visitor center. The 80 feet of elevation gain is obviously on this return leg. If you have any mobility limitations like my wife does, you should probably go back the way you came. She did struggle a little, whereas the other direction would have been easy.

After Hana
2020年1月
After driving through Hana and after passing Wailua Falls you cross a bridge where you can see the pools but there is no parking in that area. You have to go up to the Haleakala NP parking area and take a trail to the fialls. Not a bad hike

Interesting hike

We hiked along the mulch and enjoyed the views. If in the hana area suggest going to the park and doing this hike. Not too challenging.

Easy half mile loop with views
2020年2月
The lower trail is just a half mile loop with nice views of the pools and coastline. We did this after the Pipiwai Trail. It's hot and not very shaded so plan accordingly. You can take some beautiful photos from the overlooks - some parts are sheer drop offs so watch where you are going and be careful. You aren't allowed to swim in the pools but it's cool to see.

You can access this trail at the same trailhead as Pipiwai trail, to the left of the parking lot and restrooms.
