We went on a very rainy day (we were soaked) and it was nice to see, but I don't think I would do it again in the rain. It was just a little scary with the flash flood warnings and the incredible amount of water coming down. We had to walk in as the gate was down, but lots of cars were parked along the road, with visitors doing the same thing.

It was $30 per car to enter the National Park. The pass is valid for three days of park access. The various falls were flowing less this time, in December, than there were during our previous trip in April.
I think that it is worth the one hour hike up to the bamboo forest. That was other-worldly, Peaceful and dark. Important tip: wear very supportive shoes! You will walk over root systems constantly, which are hard on your feet.
The best waterfall view was actually on the bridge right as you enter the bamboo forest. Better water flows and a much better vantage point than the seven pools below.

We were there on a very rainy day and didn't get the hype. Because of the heavy rains it was just a raging torrent of brown water. Nothing that I would describe as beautiful, and the vegetation along the trail was so overgrown that we could barely see the water anyway. I know the mission of the National Park Service is to protect places, but would it kill them to at least let us see the water if not go into it anymore? If you've made it to Hana and it's still early, then I'd say it's worth the extra drive, but if it's already late in the day or if it's raining, then skip it.

We walked here after the Pipiwai trail...it's an easy stroll with a huge payoff. There are some nice flat rocks to sit on right where the gulch and ocean meet and it's a great place to just enjoy watching nature at work while munching on a snack.

We had hiked the Pipiwai trail earlier in the day and found it somewhat underwhelming. We ended up doing the "quick" Kuloa Point Trail on impulse and enjoyed it far more than expected.
I understand that once you used to be able to swim in the Sacred Pools. That would have been amazing however we still enjoyed the cliff top walk.
On the day that we visited there was a special visitor lazing on the beach so that really made our day :)

The Oheo gulch was almost dry when we visited, so the pools weren't exactly cascading. And you can't swim in it anymore. This used to be a real highlight of the Road to Hana. Less so now. Probably not worth visiting unless you're going to hike Pipiwai Trail.

The Ohe’o Gulch (also called Seven Sacred Pools) is along the Kuloa Point Trail – an easy 1/2-mile loop that is partially along a stream to where major pools spill into the ocean. It was nice but not as pretty or as stunning as I'd imagined it would be. The pools were murky from the churning of the small waterfalls. In hindsight we would have rather spent more time at other sights along the Road to Hana instead of taking time to see this.

Boy, were we underwhelmed by this one! The road to Hana contains so many great waterfalls that you can get up close to. Why drive the extra miles of narrow, poorly maintained road to Oheo just to walk along manicured paths that keep you far away from nature? Yeah, the sun-faded history boards about early Hawaiian culture in the area were informative, but you could get that in a book if it's really what you want. If you want waterfalls and pools then use the time to pull off the Road to Hana once or twice more and go see some of the (free) ones there. And if you were smart enough to stay overnight at Hana, then use your second morning to visit Red Sands or Venus Pool or the Heau and don't bother with The Seven Overhyped Pools.

Along the route were many waterfalls. Most of the ones that allow swimming have small parking lots nearby.

That would be a long hard day with all that driving but you could definately do it. The pass for the park is good for 3 days so I would recommend splitting it into 2 days.

Hello, I would like to see Ohe'o Gluch but I don't want all of the add ons like the flight, wine tasting and beach visiting. Is there any way for me to go to Ohe's gulch without doing all of the extras?

Are you willing to drive to Ohe'o Gulch? It takes about three to four hours from Kahului Airport past Hana. It's around mile marker 42 on Hana Hwy, and it's a very slooow driving. Since it's inside of Haleakala National Park, there's $10 per vehicle entrance fee unless you're active duty military personnel, or you've already entered National Park at Haleakala Crater...I think they give you like three-day pass to enter all three points at this national park (not 100% on this).
