Excellent tour! Peter was knowledgeable and excellent with our young children.
He took us to age appropriate places and appropriate length hikes for ages 7 and under.

We just got back from our trip to Hawaii. We went to Volcanoes National Park for a day and we had Peter with us for a 6 hr tour.
We had a 10 and 13 year old and Peter helped make our time at the park educational and entertaining for all. We enjoyed all the history and background of the island as well as what we were seeing and exploring at that moment. Having a personal guide helped our family learn and explore what could be a dangerous place with ease. We highly recommend Friends of Volcanoes National Park tours.

We took a tour for our family of 4 during a recent trip to the big island and highly recommend it. Lynette in the office was very friendly, helpful and responsive. Our tour guide Judy met us at 8 am (before the visitor center opens, so the park was practically empty). She was great with our kids, helped us get *so* much more out of the park than we would have on our own, showed us lots of highlights, shared her knowledge and enthusiasm with us and gave us recommendations for additional hikes in the afternoon. Great experience overall.

Eight hours flew by yesterday but so many memories were made. My three kids (18, 15, and 9) each found their favorite area of HVNP. Many thanks to Judy for keeping them engaged and showing us so much more than we ever would have made it through alone. Lynette - thank you for helping us find a date that worked and making every part of the scheduling process simple. This tour has been the highlight of our trip!

We had an amazing day with our guide Peter. As someone who has lived there for a long time he had incredible knowledge and insight. Our family really enjoyed the day! He personalized everything for us as we had two small children who are 7 and 9 who were wilting in the heat mid day. We saw breathtaking scenery but were given a historic context in which to appreciate it rather than being shuttled all over in a tour bus. We moved at a nice pace (we chose the 6 hour private tour). We would highly recommend this to anyone who is going to the park. A real gem.

Outstanding. So glad we did this tour with Judy who showed us parts of the park we would have never seen on our own. She kept us away from the touristy parts of the park which was great. I highly recommend touring the park with Friends....by far the highlight of the trip.

Judy, our guide, was the best at showing the highlights. We wanted to see the lava but she reminded us you can only see smoke in the daytime saving us hours. Then she gave us the highlights of what we could see.
This is a good cause and I am happy to pay for this tour. A lot of fun, educational and wasn't as much hiking as I thought so anybody can do it.

I am so glad to have booked with FHVNP for our tour of the park. Our tour guide was very friendly, informative, and catered the tour to our own personal interests. The price for a private tour cannot be beat and is the best way to experience the park in my opinion. Though I would recommend booking in advance, we booked a couple of weeks before our trip and FHVNP were able to accommodate us which we were very grateful for. Cannot say enough good things about our experience!

I am so thankful that we booked a tour with FHVNP! With Tim as our guide, we were able to explore so much of the park and learn so many facts! Tim is a fountain of knowledge on everything from biology to botany to geology! We learned about plants and animals of the rain forest as well as all of the different types of lava and where they can be found! Our 4 hour tour easily turned into six and a half hours! Even my two young children who are six and eight years old had a blast and learned a ton! I highly recommend using a tour guide through “Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park!” There’s too much to see and do on your own and so many things would be missed! I would love to take another trip to Hawaii one day and I will definitely book another tour with FHVNP as there is so much we weren’t even able to get to in our six hour tour!

We booked a private six hour tour of the Volcano National Park, and it was the highlight of our week on the Big Island! John was our guide. He was so knowledgeable, had many stories to tell us, had pictures in his pack, and put up with our many 'crazy' questions. We could not have picked a better tour. It was customized to our wants and needs, and I can't think of a better way to have spent the day. If you are visiting the Big Island this should be a 'must do' on your list!
