We stopped here while driving thru the National Park. It’s a very short walk from the limited car parking area to rush the rocks (which you can see from the road if you don’t want to scramble over rocks to get closer). It was cool to do a bit of rock-hopping and must be great for kids. We spent about 10 minutes in total.

I see this place as the least interesting stop from the highlights of Joshua Tree National Park.
If you have kids, I think you will spend a lot of time here because they will enjoy climbing the rocks. And you will spend all the time watching over them.

Even though it can get crowded, people move and you can take a nice picture. Also, if you are thinking about jumping up to take a picture crouched in the eye, you would be the 1 millionth person to do it.

Cool geological rock formation of a skull. Easily seen from the road through Joshua Tree National Park. When you are close, there are signs. While you are there, get out and take pics, do some climbing and hiking. Popular attraction. Limited parking spots. Quick stop.

The rock itself is okay. It’s more like the top half of a skull. It is a great place to climb on the rocks, though. There isn’t much parking, so go early, especially if it’s busy season.

The Skull Rock trail hike was amazing! Last Summer over 80% of the Joshua Tree died on the August 2023 brushfire, never to come back again on the Colorado Plateau.

As there are some people likely climbing up the rock, some photographers could be a little irritated because they don’t want other family on their pictures. Or just wait a little while. Like I did.

We saw Skull Rock on our visit to Joshua Tree NP. We did not hike the trail nearby, but we did see the interesting rock formation that looks like a skull. It is an interesting stop and it doesn't take very long to visit. It is worth a look.

The Skull Rock is right beside the road. So even if they don't allow dogs, think of it as getting it out of your car and the rock is a few feet away. No one would mind if you brought your pup along. Have fun!

I visited Arches National Park in Utah in February this year on Presidents day. We drove right into the park off of the main highway. My friend who was driving commented that he never drove into the park entrance without being slowed significantly by a line of cars ahead of him. I am wondering what types of crowds to expect and how it it will impact us both driving around and hiking. We will have this experience (delayed by more cars than usual) when driving to Joshua Tree the second weekend in May (Mother's weekend)? Planning to stay in Twentynine Palms. Time frames for doing things, getting places would be helpful. .Thanks in advance for input, suggestions, recommendations.

It isn't so crowded at the Cottonwood Spring entrance. We went Feb 16, 2017, and it wasn't very crowded. I'm sure it would be busier on a holiday.
