This is an easy short trail mainly on flat dirt paths and boardwalks round a lake suitable for those with small children and of a lower level of fitness. If you get decent weather it has stunning views of Mount Rainier and Alpine meadows. We also saw plenty of smaller wildlife.
If you want to spend a bit more time up in the meadows or have a medium level of fitness do the Nachess Pass trail instead.

This lake is cool as a mf. But know this, at the time of writing there was no lake. It was frozen and covered in snow. The drive up to it was amazing and easy to traverse. No need for snow tires, chains, or additional equipment. Be wary of the Elk. Very cool spot to see with family and young children but again be mindful. Check the weather before going and bring jackets/coats as the temperature dropped 20 degrees. It's also a mile up in elevation. We were visiting from out of town and tried to find the easiest Mt rainier viewing. This drive provided that with gorge and river views and stops along the way.

We did a day trip from Seattle in early October and hiking the Naches Loop was definitely worth a drive. We arrived about 1 pm and our first stop after parking was to hit the SST, Sweet Smelling Toilet (2 separate “rooms”). No running water FYI but hand sanitizer is available. We then ambled over to the Tipsoo Lake where we started the trail clockwise as others suggested.
The entire hike is almost 4 miles (based on an exercise app) and most of it was moderate, with the exception of some icy patches at some high places with long sheer drop offs, which made me a little nervous. Of course, during the summer the ice wouldn’t be an issue. Hikers should be in decent shape because there are some steeper parts that might be challenging. Walking poles would be handy for some folks.
The views of Rainier are spectacular, as is all the scenery, with reds, yellows, greens, and the white capped Rainier. One of the overlooks has a beautiful vista of a lake (Large Dewey?). Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous!
We saw a bald eagle, chipmunk, and some gray jays.
As a side note, for folks coming from Seattle who want to make a pit stop, there are a couple of general store type places in Greenwater. FYI, The Greenwater General Store doesn’t have public restrooms.

Was underwhelmed by the loop around this little alpine lake ... did not see the much talked about (in literature) lush and abundant wildflowers ... far better opportunities for wildflowers throughout the park ... Nice, but overrated in its scenic beauty ... haze and smoke made Mt Ranier look like a ghost even though it was sunny ... keep moving onto the Naches Peak Loop for a far better experience

Did this god forsaken trail, through lack of trail signs- was forced to sleep on ground in 35 degree weather. Bears, wolves, and elks alike roaming 30, 40, and even 50 feet within our diameter. Not fun. This trail should think about its purpose in this world.

What a beautiful little lake... There were still some wildflowers left, not many but it was lovely. Cant' imagine what the meadow looks like in full bloom.
Met some researchers working with insects and frogs. Got to see a baby Tree Frog.
Great Place for photographs. Hiking as well as a small loop around the lake.

I walked the loop on my way back from where I started from the naches peak trail. The lake isn’t pretty it’s just a level walk around the lake. Skip it.

This is a great 3-4 mile loop - starts at the Tipsoo Lake parking lot. Instead of just walking around the Tipsoo lake, you can do the hike in either direction following the Pacific Crest Trail.
We did find quite a few wildflowers along the way and half way through the loop - you will arrive at the Dewey Lake - a very pretty lake.
I would say that this is next best hike after the Skyline Drive in Mt Rainier National Park area.
Strongly recommended!!

If the flowers in most of the pictures aren't blooming then cross this off your list. Reflection Lake, on a clear day, is a much more impressive sight. Tipsoo has a short trail around the lake which is fine is you have small children or walking concerns. Otherwise, with so much to see in the park this one wouldn't make my list.

Part of the fun of the Naches Peak Loop trail is following along part of the Pacific Crest Trail. Wildflowers along the PCT portion were in kaleidoscope color in mid-August. This 3.4-mile loop combines lakes, meadows, valleys, forests, and distant mountain views. The bonus is postcard views of Mt. Rainier if you’re hiking on a clear day.
As you approach Tipsoo Lake on State Route 410, there are two parking lots to access Naches Peak Loop. The larger lot on the north end has bathrooms and picnic tables. From this lot, if you follow the trail clockwise, head towards the lake and look for a trail heading uphill to your left (no sign when I was there in August). After 15 minutes through forest you’ll top out on a hill overlooking SR 410. Take the bridge that crosses over the road and continue on the trail.
At this point you are also following the Pacific Crest Trail which meanders up and down through meadows on the back side of Naches Peak. Turn around occasionally and look at the views behind you as you gradually gain elevation. After about 1.5 miles watch for signage that directs you west off the PCT and back onto the Naches Peak Loop Trail. Head uphill a bit more, past side trails to Dewey Lake below you, then make a turn that opens up to views of Mt. Rainier. As you begin your descent there’s a small lake that provides an photogenic foreground for iconic pictures of Mt. Rainier in the distance.
The trail winds through meadows and forests (and huckleberry bushes in the fall) as you descend back to the Tipsoo Lake parking lots. Most of this loop trail is in the sun, which means use sunscreen!

With the fires around the area can you see still see the mountain views? We are planning to go in a couple of hours and we wanted to make sure we can see the beautiful views after we spend an hour and half driving there. If not we will wait for another time. I know someone posted they had gone in the past couple of days since the fires started. Thanks!

No camping available at the lake. Within My. RAINEER NP, nearest sites are at Ohanapacosh or White River Campgrounds
