The friendliest welcome for both me and my dog. Lots of smiles, useful information and a dog treat for my dog. Really put sunshine and warmth into a very dreary wet day. Despite the weather the gardens were stunning too.
My car has a dog friendly mode and I was able to pop her back into the car which was parked conveniently nearby whilst I visited the beautiful house. A very interesting house to visit and it was wonderful to hear the grand piano being played, too.
A truly delightful place to visit.

Staying in the area, we thought this would be a nice place to visit for an hour or two. Blown away by the house and family story. Spent about 2 hours in the house, then wandered through the beautiful gardens. There is a walk around the estate that overlooks the River Dart, with a wooden gazebo that is perched perfectly for the view. Volunteer gardeners on hand to give lots of information and tips. Plants on sale. We had tea and cake outside, but there are plenty of options for lunch. Would have stayed longer, definitely one to visit again.

Bit of a jaunt through narrow lanes and the entrance is also the exit so depending on your arrival time..
if people are leaving it's tight to reverse.
Cafe is smaller than most National Trust and shop was really expensive for a drink.
I'd suggest packing up food to bring including plenty of drinks as garden steep.
House all good. Lots to look at.
The young guy who offered us a pamphlet on entering..we refused as not happy to touch after so many other people have touched.
(Not even wiped after use)
Then said to us. Don't touch anything in the rooms as covid was about again?
We certainly wouldn't be anyhow. So don't expect us to touch your mucky pamphlets!
Gardens well maintained. They go down a very steep hill to an amazing view point of the bay if you can manage it. Plenty of seats on way back up but if you have mobility issues you might struggle.
Enjoyed our visit but not a returning one for us.

Beautiful gardens with some really unusual and exotic plants. We got to see the century plant just before it flowered. Also has stunning views of the sea.
We were with our daughters aged 5 and 7 but they had lots of ‘wild Wednesday’ activities for them so despite their initial reluctance at visiting a pretty garden they had a lovely time too.
There is a nice cafe as you would expect from NT, though we took packed lunches and ate them in the sunshine admiring the plants.
The road leading to it is very narrow with quite a lot of cars during busy holiday period so requires tactical use of passing spaces

Stunning house and grounds. We all loved it here. Lucky to see 5 peregrines flying together near the hammocks. Will definitely go again if in the area.

This is my favourite NT property in the whole of the UK! The location is outstanding, the gardens (RHS) are just stunning, and the house is beautiful. Gardens are well looked after and really interesting. The house is kept in the 1939s style and the piano playing was the cherry on top!
The Summer of Play events were brilliant - we loved the hammocks best. What views over thr coast!
Scones were incredible and staff all lovely.
What a gem! Keep at it, NT!

My new favourite National Trust property. Just loved everything about it, the house, the gardens. The guides were really friendly and knowledgeable. The cafe was good. I would move into the house tomorrow! The only quibble would be the rather tortuous road to get to the house. So recommend going out of season if you can.

Beautiful house and gardens leading down to the sea. Fascinating history as well Very well looked after property. Gardens very large so a lot of walking and amazing views. Road very narrow to get there.

Lovely National Trust destination, beautiful house with lovely gardens, great place for going on walks with pretty stop off points overlooking the coast. Lots of plants in the garden and is well worth the visit.

Lovely house, amazing gardens, but ….
We had planned to eat a substantial lunch. However, on arrival at the cafe there were only vegetarian options available, no meat at all on the menu. Vegetarians have been complaining for years about not being catered for - it appears the catering manager has turned the tables. I have to say I object to people imposing their values on the rest of the public - just provide options for everyone! Otherwise we had a lovely day.

We are staying in Kingswear and want to walk the coastal path to Coleton, our first time on the South West Coastal Path. We walk in the Lakes, so don’t mind the idea of some ups and downs. However, I am a little nervous that there may be some exposed and narrow areas on the path. Can anyone advise if this is the case please? Also how long we can expect the walk to Coleton to take?

Hi philcaredevon, thanks for your question. To visit during our normal opening hours then members just need to show their card to gain free entry. For any events outside of the normal opening hours, such as Coleton Aglow and outdoor theatre, members will need to purchase a ticket.

Yes you can get to Coleton Fishacre via South West Coast Path, but I advise you to use the correct O.S Map because there are a couple of different ways to go each one can be quite strenuous.

The garden at Coleton Fishacre is 30 acres, and can take anything from 1 hour to 3! Not to mention our wonderful café and shop, you may end up spending quite a lot of time here!

Thank you for your question. As Salcome is approximately 18 miles away from Coleton Fishacre, the easiest and quickest way to visit is by car.
Alternatively, you could get a bus from Salcombe to Dartmouth, cross the river on the ferry to Kingswear and then get a taxi from Kingswear to Coleton Fishacre.
If you fancied walking and taking in the countryside, you can go from Kingswear to Coleton Fishacre via the South West Coast Path.
