The qualification I give is that when I visited Santo Domingo this emblematic building of the 16th century was closed to the public due to the visible restoration that was being refealized, which made it impossible to even appreciate its facade.
It is also known as the Viceroyal Palace of Don Diego Colón (Son of the Discoverer of the New World)
It is located on the right side of the "Gate of San Diego".

A very interesting museum that teaches you the history of the founder of America, is part of the historic center of the capital of the Dominican Republic; if or if you have to know the history if you are Latin American.

My bad luck, past 3 trips, I have encountered something like this every trip. Chicago- bean was under construction. Acadia, can’t see the sunset due to fog, and now this. The place was closed for renovation.
Overlooking the Plaza de España and the Ozama River, the Alcázar de Colón (Columbus Palace) was built in the early 1500s as the governor’s residence. Once the home of Diego Colón, Christopher Columbus' son, this 16th-century viceregal palace (or residence of the governor/viceroy) was the nucleus of the Spanish court for more than 60 years.
Explore 22 rooms over two stories inside the restored palace and museum, and see a collection of furniture, household items, artworks, tapestries, musical instruments, and weaponry, which offer a glimpse of life in Colonial Santo Domingo.
A tour of the Alcázar de Colón is a must for anyone who wants to learn more about the city's rich history. And be sure to pick up some headphones to take advantage of the museum's self-guided audio tours

Unfortunately it is on the rise now. So unfortunately there is little to see now. The information board is broken, but fortunately we had the walking map with us that provided some explanation.

Assolutamente consiglio di visitarla !!! Gli interni sono favolosi,curatissimi e ricchi di mobili,abiti e utensili originali dell'epoca : un vero e proprio museo in un palazzo. È servita l'audio guida in varie lingue . Tappa obbligatoria a Santo Domingo!

Popular destination for tour guides. Queues for tickets. One way system of viewing . 2 floors of exhibits from Columbus times. Lacks funding to bring it to "life" and less dirty.

Ask your Hotel Receptionist for City Tour to Santo Domingo (cheapest alternative)k, or Travel Agencies of the area. Alcazar de Colon open from Monday to Saturday from 9 to 5 and Sundays until 4 p.m. Rental of audiophone in different languages. Not over RD$100.00 then you can visit all other buildings in the same area. Wear comfortable shoes ! Stone roads all the way !

Negative. During CARNAVAL, you may wear any custom you like. Our Carnaval has many dates, and is celebrated at all towns. The most important ones are in LA VEGA and in SANTO DOMINGO. Check the website of our Ministry of Tourism.
