There were no pontoon boats. A pontoon wouldn’t allow one to see the bioluminescence very well as you need to disturb the water with one’s paddle to see the underwater glow.

The tour happens at night so unless there's a late-night flight, there's no way to get off the island after the end of the tour. I believe the last ferry boat off the island happens before the end of the tour.

You take kayaks from the beach and travel a total of 3 miles. The kayaking portion goes at a slow pace so no worry there. If you can sit for roughly 2 hrs, can continuously row then you can do this.

For the same company? Generally all of the companies are within a $20 range. More money may mean more experienced guides but without knowing the tour company I’m not sure. I’d pick the company with the best reviews. The company I went with was awesome and we stayed out on the bay for a very long time, whereas I saw some companies just barely get into the water (forget the company name but it’s in my reviews). Hope this helps!

I stayed on the malecon above duffys bar and restaurant- great rooms with a view. In terms of taxis, they are a bit hit or miss. It really depends on how busy the weekend is. I actually had to hitch hike at one point since the ten taxis I called were not answering. I’d recommend renting a car or just staying right on the malecon. Ps: watch out for horses at night when driving!
