We made it to the top!!! What a great feeling of accomplishment and a way to take in some of the best views in the Caribbean! The local tour guides are great and help you stay safe on the steep trails. This hike is not for the faint of heart. If you had too many Piton beers the night before or haven’t worked out recently, I’d skip it for sure! But if you’re in for a challenge, you’ll be rewarded by the vast views, culture and foliage along the trail. It’s $50 USD per person, the guides work on tips and you can grab a taxi to take you there. Could be one of the more affordable tours available!

We paid for an excursion off of a Norwegian Cruise. It was a 1.5-hour ride one way to the Pitons and a botanical garden. We stopped for bathroom break, and locals sold bananna bread, drinks, and souvenirs. The Pitons were beautiful. We did the same stop going back. Our driver David was a lot of fun.

We was on a marella cruise ship and visiting for the day, we have been before and opted for the same trip which again was a full day with some great experiences. So the pitons and views were beautiful and then the sulphur springs were fun, delicious homemade food to try and plenty of drinks. It was tiring but well worth the experience in which we also went out on a speed boat to a great little beach which was full of sea life.

Powered cat boat cruise along the west coast to the Pitons. Excellent views and much easier than driving from the cruise port. I view the Pitons as a must-see experience.

I’d recommend a catamaran tour to view the pitons. Apparently it’s a very hard hike up there. Best view from the sea. We used carnival tours booked through our cruise ship 🚢

We made it half way up this beautiful but very challenging hike! I would recommend going halfway = the last mile is full of verticle rock scrambles!

These are 'must see' peaks and they can be seen from various places. The Gros Pitons climb is very steep over continuous rough ground. A guide is required for safety rather than navigation. Even experienced walkers seem to struggle with the ascent in the heat. The views from the summit are a bit limited by vegetation (and if you go in poor weather). There are two summit viewpoints, 30 mins apart. If you're slow on the ascent, your guide might not take you to the second viewpoint.

Pitons are the most spectacular site not only in St. Lucia, but probably in the whole Caribbean. Two cone shaped volcanic peaks are listed as a nature UNESCO heritage site and they're a nation's symbol represented on their flag.
You have 3 options from my headline to visit this natural wonder.
As we were on a cruise we had only around 8 hours to explore the island, so my review will be from the cruiser's point of view to help other cruise passengers.
DRIVE - If coming with a cruise ship it will dock north in Castries, while the Pitons are south in Soufriere, which in fact was the first capital established by the French in 17c.
We had a pre booked rent a car, as we like to explore on our own without a tour.
BEWARE, driving in St. Lucia is a nightmare and for the first time I regretted I did not take the mini van tour. Driving is on the road's left hand side (like in UK) and that's the first obstacle. Roads are in a very bad condition with hundreds of potholes (some a meter in diameter) and very often wet because of frequent rains. Due to those rains there's a deep and wide ditch at the side of the road for drainage as it's dominantly a mountainous terrain. Add to that crazy driving locals and hundreds of hair pin curves with ascends and descends and you end up driving 40 kms between the two towns an hour and a half !!! So think twice - maybe it's better to pay more for an organized tour.
Just before Soufriere you have several terrific view points of the Pitons where you can stop, enjoy the views and take fab pics (type Mirador Piton Santa Lucia in Maps).
Another great view point is down from Soufriere public beach - Hummingbird beach. Here, you can take a swim to relax after that drive and have great views from the sea level.
SAIL - as you disembark your ship in Castries touts will approach you offering sail tours. Prices are pretty high from here as its far away from the Pitons and it consumes your entire day without a chance to see other St. Lucia attractions.
Another option is to take a boat tour from Soufriere, where the price is reasonable as you're already there.
HIKE - many wrote here about that and we did not do it because we didn't have enough time. You must take a guided tour and it takes in total some 6, 7 hours.
To conclude - Pitons are the symbol and the best attraction to see in St. Lucia so you simply must do it either way.

If you are booking directly at the hiking station it is US $50 per person, however if you're staying at a hotel or resort and there is an excursions desk they may sell a package

Hi all ! We're aboard the Marella Explorer and will be docking in Castries St Lucia tomorrow. I'd like to see the view from the Pitons without Hiking to the top (we have a friend who can't walk far), a waterfall and a couple hours visit to Le Toc beach. Do you think it reasonable to do all that in 7 hours ? We'll probably ask a taxi driver to run us around tomorrow but wondered if do-able !! Obviously not to the top of the Pitons but not sure how far up you can get by road ? (If at all). If not we'll just admire from afar ! Thanks all in advance.
