Such a beautiful, tranquil place. Ian, our guide was great - he really brought it all to life. Would definitely recommend having a guide - you could miss so much. We found it all so interesting. And the Vincy parrots responded!!
It was $5 EC for entry - less than £2!!!
Definitely visit if you are in St Vincent.

A little walk from the cruise port - may be best to take a taxi if it’s hot! Would definitely recommend using a guide which is an extra $4 per person - our guide was excellent, very informative and gave us a great tour which takes about an hour.

We had an excellent tour around these botanical gardens by Jeffrey the guide. It was well worth paying extra for the tour as Jeffrey brought the gardens to life, with his expert knowledge and his bag of tricks with all sorts of wonders to see, smell and touch. Well worth a guided visit to spend an afternoon or morning!

This garden is quite beautiful, well maintained and harbors an impressive and diverse collection of species.
We engaged a guide who was quite knowledgeable but who spoke fast with a heavy local accent. I asked him politely to slow down as my wife and I both had difficulties hearing everything. He kept to his pace and was oblivious to any comments we had in general.
Overall, it was informative to have a guide, but it ended awkwardly. The stated charge was $EC10 (USD3.7), but at the end the guide said that the charge was really USD4 per hour and we had "gone over time." But we had not asked for that and felt that he was moving the goal posts while the game was underway. It's not about the money--which is a pittance--but we objected to the principle. We still left a generous tip.

We visited the Botanic Gardens on a cruise ship excursion. Our guide on this tour was excellent as she pointed out trees and plants that had medicinal and food values or another usefulness. A fascinating plant for me was one whose leaves that felt like sandpaper were used for making emery boards! Another tree called Cannonball tree had the most gorgeous apricot flowers that opened only for a day and then fell off. The Ironwood tree was used to make tool handles. There were other useful trees like breadfruit, almond, velvet apple, kapoc, papaya, and cinnamon trees. The trees do have identification labels (some with badly faded print) which give their Latin names and origins, but not the interesting part - how the tree is used. The park had several trees planted by the royal family - Prince Charles, his brother Prince Edward, and his son, Prince Harry - which to me indicated the importance of this park to the people of St. Vincent. There even was an off-shoot of a tree, the breadfruit tree, that captain Bligh had brought over from Tahiti. The display of parrots was disappointing as there were just a few adults in the cages with their backs turned to visitors as they slept on twigs.

Presently it is very well looked after with the trees spaced in the lawn. There is a perimeter paved path as well as a path in the middle of the park that leads to a small pond and sitting area. Très beau jardin, très bien entretenu. J’en ai pris plein les yeux. Le guide nous a fait sentir et découvrir de nombreuses espèces d’arbres et de fleurs.

The gardens are well maintained and clean. They are beautiful and lush green. It is relatively small when compared to the other gardens. It'll take you about an hour to go around the gardens. The garden itself becomes pointless if you go without a guide as you'll be taking photos of trees and wandering around without any context. The guide costs $4USD per person.
I came to St.Vincent for a day as part of cruise ship. Having visited the gardens, i would swap this with something else on the island as part of a day tour. The trees and plants on display are actually naturally growing all over the Caribbean. Also, the garends on other Caribbean islands are far bigger and better.
There are talking parrots in cages at the far end of the gardens which made the visit totally worth it. If it weren't for the parrots, i think this was a waste of time. We were a group of 8 with 4 adults and 4 children. Considering the total cost of entrance fees and guide, i don't think it was worth the amount.

Dieser schöne Botanische Garten kann zu Fuß in 45 Minuten vom Hafen erreicht werden ( man kann natürlich auch mit dem Taxi fahren).
Der Eintritt kostet nur 2 $.
Man sollte jedoch unbedingt mit einem Führer, die am Eingang bereit stehen, durch den Park gehen. Gegen einen geringen Obolus werden viele Pflanzen gezeigt und erklärt, die man ohne Führer nicht gesehen hätte.
Wir haben z.B. frische Muskatnüsse geerntet und Brotfrüchte in der Hand gehabt.

Go there on an organised tour, or walk the two miles from the cruise terminal up the hill and pay the couple of US dollars entry before slipping 10 US $’s to a local guide who will take you all around the garden, started way back in the mid 1750s. Our guide knew his stuff and took us to places away from the snaking groups who seemed to take an eternity, always held back by the slowest member of the party. Deffo worth the trip just to smell the lovely botanicals.

Still one of the best places to visit in SVG. This is a must to see if you are going to the country for the first time and into plants etc.
Only gripe is the shop could be better stocked with more items. Very limited cold drinks was available and it would have been a bonus if they had ice-creams.
It is great to see many of the National Parrots there which there are plenty of now.
Seems to be popular for people taking wedding pictures.

Hi, we visited the gardens in St Vincent last year, and did an organised trip. Next year we will be there again and would like to spend longer in the gardens, could you please tell me what sort of cost was the taxi from town? (We will be starting at the cruise terminal) and possibly how much was the cost for a guise? USD would be good if you have the information. Many thanks in advance.

We used Top Dawg Tours as as our taxi a. s we toured more than the garden. The tour guide at the garden was $10 US er person. Worth every penny!!

To be honest any of the taxi drivers will provide an excellent service.
They love their island, have a great knowledge of it and very friendly.
The area close to the ship can look a little intimidating for the faint hearted but the locals are great too.

Is the walk to the Botanical Gardens uphill or level? If it is uphill, is it possible to take a taxi or other transport to the gardens. I have a genetic condition which makes walking up even the slightest incline quite a struggle. We visit on a cruise early December and I think we are the only ship in port on the day.

The gardens are laid out on a hillside so any visit will require some uphill walking mostly on well defined paths. Transport by taxi to the entrance and exits is easy but we entered at the lower end of the gardens and left by an exit higher up the hill.

We walked there but it is not a short walk and from the ferry port to he botanical gardens this is steeply up hill and so not easy if you are not used to walking.

You don't need to take a guide, but they know the place and its trees and plants well and are happy to spend a reasonable time with you, pointing out things you might otherwise miss - the age of trees for instance - even if you know the Caribbean and its vegetation quite well. The guide's fee plus tip isn't too much of an ask - USD5 as I remember.

The Botanical Gardens has paved pathways, and gentle slopes in a few areas. Can use a pushchair and still see most of the Garden.
