You have to visit this temple when you are in Trinidad. Very peaceful en mystik place. The temple warden Bal Krishna and his wife Reneka were so welcoming that we felt immediately as if we were at home. We went twice to this place.

We really enjoyed our visit to this temple. An older gentleman and one of the caretakers of the temple took time to give us the history behind the place, he was so friendly. The grounds were virtually empty the day we went so it was nice to have the place to ourselves so to speak. Please be respectful and wear pants or long skirts, and don't take any pictures without asking first.

The Hanuman statue is certainly something to behold. I was told that this is the largest in the Western Hemisphere and second largest in the world. The statue towers over the yoga temple and is clearly visible from a distance as you approach. The statue of Hanuman is 26m tall (85ft).
The statue was completed in 2001, and the new temple structure was completed in 2003. Both were designed and built by artisans from India. The temple itself is beautifully ornate and worth walking around to take in the craftsmanship of the whole building.
I visited the temple and statue as part of a day trip with Sensational Tours and Transport, starting at Pitch Lake and working my way back to Caroni Swamp. The temple and statue are worth a visit, along with the Temple in the Sea, if you are heading south. But this may not be a “must see” for the average tourist.
The temple was closed at the time of my visit, so I wasn’t able to go inside, however it is still free to walk around and look inside. While the statue certainly draws the attention, the intricate nature of the designs on the surrounding buildings almost surpass it in terms of intrigue.

This is along the way from the tar pit back towards PoS where you stop to take the boat on the swamp tour for the birds. You need about half an hour here. Key things to note - don't touch the flowers given this is a holy area within the initial gate, take off the shoes if you want to enter the temple, and bring some bread or crackers to feed the fish that come up to the shoreline to the right side of the temple (right side when facing it upon entering).

The Hanuman Statue was very impressive and I felt a feeling of reverance in its presence. I recommend going here if you get a chance while in Trinidad.

About a 20 min ride south of Port of Spain you’ll find The Hanuman Statue and Dattatreya Temple. The statue, temple, and its story are fascinating if your into the history of things, architecture, spirituality, sightseeing, etc. . The temple and its grounds are impeccably clean and quite impressive. This is an active temple, we made sure to be mindful of respecting the traditions and were welcomed with open arms. Photos are not allowed inside anywhere. We we told by the locals photos from the common area walkways were ok. The folks we met and conversed with were fantastic, and those interactions made the stop worth much more. After Hanuman, If you have the time and means to continue driving, less than 5 mins to the West right at the coast is the “Temple in the Sea”. Another temple with an equally interesting story and wonderful folks to interact with.

I visited the Dattatreya Temple in early July with my yoga group and it was a wonderful and enriching experience. We attended one of the morning prayer sessions and the pronunciation of the Vedic mantras was highly commendable and articulate. Not only was the temple compound very peaceful, its architecture reminded me of the South Indian temples I have only seen in Bollywood movies. I am sure a future visit to India, would confirm that the architectural genius is the same. The Dattatreya Temple is not just a tourist site but a place that offers something more than just what meets the eye. It is definitely a rewarding place to visit in Trinidad and Tobago.

This was such a unique visit for us. The culture of Trinidad and Tobago is amazing. What I did not realize is the Eastern Asia influence of Hindu and Buddhist on the Island. This site came out of nowhere in amidst a group of houses. The craftsmanship of the house/"castle" and of the statute is quite amazing. Worth going.

This is a beautiful temple. The statute of Lord Hanuman is impressive with his all-seeing eyes. There's a gift shop on the premises. Ample parking. Guests are always welcome of any religion but you must obey their rules, such as no shoes inside the temple, no alcohol etc.
