On Thursday, my group, small gold, starting on the left side of the pier getting into the water rush, rocky challenging
The next day I was back for a dive, getting out and It’s doable and worth the effort as there is much to see just below the surface lobster turtles fish visability to 30 feet not that deep less then 30 feet
sunset cruise leaves from the other side. This is also the arrival for it for a cruise ships.

The south side of the pier was nearly dead. We did see a couple of turtles. We couldn't go out very far because a cruise ship was in port. So we went up the beach a ways on the north side, and the snorkeling among the rocks was decent there.

Best beach snorkel I’ve had in years. Easy entry from the rocks at shore. To the immediate south of the pier, there is a sandy path into the water. Healthy, colorful coral and sponges are growing on the made-made pier supports and rocks. Calm, clear water with an amazing variety of fish, including a school of blue tang and giant groups of snapper that swam with us! We were treated to a green sea turtle and a small spotted eagle ray as well. Just an easy, worthwhile snorkel that you can walk out of without any sand between your toes.

By far our favorite snorkeling site out of the 5 we visited. Lots to see, great coral, turtles, rays, moray eel, barracuda, and more tropical fish than you can count. Easy for any level.

This is an excellent place to snorkel when the rest of the island has rough currents. It is quiet and clear. It is only "open" when there is not a cruise ship docked there. You can check the cruise ship schedule on line. This area has numerous fish, turtles, coral of all colors and other amazing creatures. The only drawback is lack of a restroom to use, which seem to be only open when the cruise ship is in port.

Fish, coral, turtles, right off the pier. Easy to get in just to the left of the pier. What could be better?

Come here to snorkel or dive under the pier for amazing sea-life on non-Cruise ship days. If you want to shop and eat and people watch, save that for a day when the cruise ships are in town when everything is open and hopping.
Otherwise nearly ALL the stores and shops are closed and windows shuttered since there is no sustainable business without the tourists. The parks on either side of the pier are pretty grim. Poverty is real. Social inequity is profoundly imbedded into the islands long and sad history.

Interested in cost of taxi from cruise pier to Christiansted. And is it worth the trip? Also wondering if we would be better suited to rent a car. Are there rentals from Frederiksted? And finally, does anyone know if The Beachside Café at Sandcastles Hotel is open since Hurrican Irma? Thank you for any help!!

Absolutely . Around 30-40 bucks. Took 1/2 day Buck Island trip. If you have time go to Ziggy’s Island Gas and Bar. Great cab is John ((Electric One).

We toured the old fort and found it very interesting - certainly was a different time then! Good food is to be found in several locations near the pier. Snorkeling or diving at the pier was amazing with the uprights covered in beautiful colorful corals - we saw a five foot moray eel, sea horses, lobsters, many fabulous fish and a large barracuda there as well.

Unfortunately the tour we took was booked thru our cruise ship (Celebrity) and I'm thinking around $100, but if you google snorkel tours on st kitts you'll get plenty of information. Also suggest using trip advisor for help with ratings on those tours.
