Unassuming from the car park but persevere - the site opens out into a wonderfully derelict collection of blast furnaces, calcining kilns, chimneys, cottages with a birds eye view from the top of the water balance lift. Welcoming staff and a very well executed audiovisual presentation. A great sense of the realities of life and work in the 19th century.

Car Parking, which is free, available across the road from the site. Entrance fee £6-90 for adults. Site consists of the industrial, in the form of the remaining buildings for iron production and the square of homes. These houses where lived in until 1971. Plenty of information available to gain an understanding of the process and the buildings on the site. We were lucky to have fantastic weather so wandered over all the site. There are picnic tables dotted about so take a packed lunch as there is no food provision available. Surprised how much I remembered from my O levels on the Industrial Revolution (Bessemer's Convertor etc)!

Very interesting site. Learned a lot about how iron is produced. Especially enjoyed the workers cottages which were set up in different eras from 1870’s to 1960’s.

The descent into the black mine was in a crowded lift. The old miner that led the tour shared personal experiences working in a 1 meter shaft.

this is a place well worth a visit for industrial history plenty of parking the climb to the hill top is well worth it

The iron works is a great place well worth a visit and an hour or two of your time.
The industrial revolution was founded on coal and iron and the iron works shows how the iron was produced. 2000 people worked in this small area. The housing showing how the homes changes over the decades is very interesting.

Called in here and wasn't really expecting much as it doesn't sound too exciting but don't be deceived. The lady in the little shop where we purchased our tickets we very enthusiastic about the site and gave us lots of information. We enjoyed the visual experience set up in one of the furnaces which gives a great impression of what life would be like when the ironworks was open. There are also some houses on the site - some set up as they would have been in 1760 right through to 1967 and a display about the ironworks business and how it developed. It was really interesting - much more than we expected and although it's not a massive site we were there for around 90 minutes The ironworks is also connected to The Big Pit which is a visitor attraction.

Staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival, Cymraeg ac English offered - diolch am y Gymraeg. Guide, Mike was extremely knowledgeable and I learnt so much.

Interesting 1789 World Heritage Site where one can see where iron was cast. The old furnaces, foundry, cast house and massive balance water tower are there for all to see. Visual display of how pig iron was made.
There are workers' cottages on site with room settings from various decades. Built in three terraces around where a tall chimney once stood. The life expectancy of workers and residents must have been poor with the foul toxic air.

Interesting site. There was a really good guide on the site, which was lucky because I thought the written/audio information was pretty poor otherwise.

there is two statement about entry fee ,some people are saying it is free and some are saying its has fee ,I visit the website there is fee mention about 16 pound for family .

Dear Kevin,
Allow me to express my surprise for the idea. Frankly, I cannot imagine where on the site, either sheltered or in open air, any event like a wedding banquet or similar could be carried out, provided the premise management would allow it.
There are so many castles in Wales, that you shoud not have the difficulty to find a more romantic and suitable site for the purpose
