There are two options for walking up and down to Brean Down. Once up there the views both north and south were superb on a clear day. The paths are easy to walk on.

Really love this place beautiful walk, incredible views and some awesome history. Paths better suited to an off road buggy/push chair though so bear that in mind. Also hard work pushing it up the hill!

This place is good to go to if you are a hiker and like to walk up steep hills. It is located up a very steep hill, and you have to walk up a rocky path to get to the top. Great views and there is also a castle. There are free roaming cattle that also are up on the clifftop, that are very cute. Good cafes and service.

They do not have a woman's bathroom/loo. They will force you to share bathrooms with men. This is unacceptable and not in accordance with the law

We visit Brean Down and walk out to the fort once or twice year, it is best to choose a still day if possible as it can get very windy up on Brean Down.
Our visit midweek in the middle of March found the car park and cafe at Brean Down quite busy but not crowded. After a coffee in the cafe we walked up the steps and out to the fort.
The fort was constructed in the Palmerston era, and modernised in WWII, quite a few buildings still remain, though some are roofless, and others are only opened when there are NT staff on duty at the fort on special occasions. There is plenty to explore, and also bird life to see and views to enjoy. We returned as always along the Military Road with super views of Weston Bay.

We couldn't do the walk as it was too far from us and we hadn't book a Tramper with the NT. We stopped for a cup of tea in the cafe though. 2 teas and two sausage baps = £16!! Outrageous. 2 Cornish pasties = £5 each!!
We didn't hang around for long as there wasn't much to see out of season.

We drove to Brean Down today, it was a cold January day, so we sat in the car for a while before venturing out and going for a bracing walk. What a view, all those beautiful stratified rocks and cliffs! Several people were braving the bitter wind and climbing the steep steps to the top before walking most likely to the end where there are pillboxes from the war years. We weren't so hardy, but after our walk we got straight back in the car to warm up. Still it was a beautiful experience.

Found this national trust walk a little by accident but made a highlight of a day out, spent a few hours walking over the down, came across the old Brean Down Fort and was a superb step back in time.. have been visiting this area since a small boy, Western-S-Mare with grandparents and parents, recent times Brean with my own family, well a good decade now year on year and just found this. Could have spent more time walking and exploring but day light fading left us returning. But will be back for a repeat visit a touch earlier nest time…. Catch it at tide out for the best views.

Lots of walking if you want to visit the old military fort at the end of Brean Down. It took us about 2 hours full walking around. Lovely views across the sea and of Wales. Peaceful and quiet. Interesting with the military fort. Very steep in places and quite a challenging walk. The parking is free if you are a National trust member.

For the cost of the carpark (i think it's £5 or free for NT members) and a picnic, you can tire out as many children as you like! I bring the grandchildren and we're out all day. Reliably informed by a 10 year old, that there are 227 steps to the top. There are passing points where you can take a breather and check out the amazing views. There is also a military track that goes around the headland if you don't like steps, it's quite steep at the beginning. I'm not a particularly fit granny, and I manage fine either way! We usually take the steps up, and the track down. The fort at the end is quite interesting, plenty for the children to explore, and great for hide and seek. No loo's at the end, but there are in the carpark at the start, also a couple of cafes, ice cream place, and a small bird garden to visit. (Separate entrance fee) Cheap day out, great fun, get there early as the carpark can get rather busy.
