Busy area of crowded walking streets. Shops overflowing with hand made goods from all over Mexico. Better quality than the stalls along Av. Revolution. Better prices than the high end shops on Av. Revolution and associated with the Centro Cultural. If you walk across the border from San Diego, after the strange vacant concrete pedestrian bridges, this is where you end up, before getting to Av. Revolution. The vacant areas going over the roads felt creepy but were in fact completely safe as far as we could tell.

The Mercado Artesanias was one of the main highlights of my recent trip to Tijuana and I'd recommend it highly - especially if you'd appreciate a marketplace for quality arts and crafts that's easy to access but simultaneously, a bit off the beaten track so it's not mobbed with tourists. I found a wonderful panama hat there as well as two Frida Kahlo canvas bags that set me back $5, without bargaining since it was a bargain to begin with. A special treat was watching piñatas being made.

This place was good for shopping but can be a bit sketchy and some of some stores sell the same items.

Não dei sorte em minha visita talvez. Esperava mais. A maioria das lojas estava fechada pouco antes do meio-dia. Fiquei impressionado com o trabalho de miniaturas em cristal mas em Poços de Caldas-MG a variedade é melhor. Não encontrei nada que me chamasse mais a atenção ao contrário das lojas na Av. La Revolución. Pode se perder pela quantidade de corredores. Tem estacionamento no local.

Nous étions sceptiques à l idée d y aller parce qu'on avait peur d être alpagués tous les mètres par les vendeurs et ce n est pas du tout ce qui s est passé. C est très grand, il y a beaucoup de choix et personne dans ce marché. C est très bien pour ramener des souvenirs même si on n est pas dupe sur le fait qu'il y a beaucoup de made in china. Pour ma part, j ai ramené des azuléjos.

I had never been to Mexico and since I was in San Diego, decided to drive over to TJ to do some sight seeing and shopping. The most interesting sight was a donkey painted with black strips to like a zebra and available for photos for $10. I had a burrito that cost the same as what you pay in San Diego, and souvenirs were not that much of a bargain unless you are willing to bargain with the vendors, Although I only spent an hour or so here, I'm glad I did take this side trip to visit TJ.

Went to TJ with a friend from overseas on Sunday. Mercado Artesanias was dead, no tourist as expected. I felt bad for the vendors. Left quickly.

Having been to quite a few arts and crafts markets in Latin America, this one in Tijuana doesn't hold a candle to what I've seen and that's why I've rated it as just average. However, if you like talavera pottery, there's LOTS and LOTS of it so you'll have a grand time looking at it all. If you're looking for clothing, there's also quite a bit of choice as well as lots and lots of huge pots and things I couldn't be less interested in. I was looking for alebrijes from Oaxaca and there were none to be find but I know they're hard to find in Tijuana.

Whether you walk from the border or take a taxi you'll find the craft items here a great adventure. If you walk the cement walkway, with stairs, from the border across the Tijuana River, through shopping areas and plazas and over roadways it's harder, but I've done it. We've been coming here for over a year, usually before and after a dentist appointment and have purchased many things for the house and yard. We take a cart with wheels. There are many alleyways and walkways with most anything Mexican. They now charge for parking in the lot but we've never driven in. Close to the border the walkway ends at the back entrance into the Mercado. East of Revolucion St and the arch but I've never shopped in that area so I can't compare. You'll find shoes, leather goods, furniture, "day of the Dead" items, jewelry, party good, pinatas, ceramics, clothes, metal work, glass and more. I recently bought margarita glasses and some metal figures, also colorful ceramics of the sun and moon. Some shops have so many different things you could spend hours there. Talavera's House has a large assortment of everything. They are expanding their location and updating the entrance way. Check out their Day of the Dead souvenirs. Also a large assortment of glassware. #264 Anador Tonala. betos_1650@hotmail.com. Although I don't think you'll find anyone by the address. Ramirez Curios had good metal work where we purchased rocking peacocks in various colors anchored by a large stone rock. Andador San Miguel #152. ramirez_curios@hotmail.com. Most items are made in other parts of Mexico. Not so much a local industry anymore. I think leather goods might be local for purses. No one will pester you here to buy. You're on your own.We always bargain but you must remember that they have to make a living also. The main anchor is cement garden sculptures and water features but you'll need a car for transport of such large items. At various locations we've purchased unusual Halloween ceramics and Xolos(local soccor team) ceramics. You'll find all sport team souvenirs. I still haven't seen the whole Mercado. Best to come early afternoon as some shops don't open until late morning.
