Our family (2 adults, 2 teens) had an amazing tour with Tonalli as our guide. This was one of our favorite experiences during our stay in Mexico City. Our various dietary preferences were easily accommodated and we all left with full bellies and brains chock full of new info. Thank you, Tonalli and Eat Mexico!

Traveled to Mexico City over New Years and went on the La Merced Market Tour with Adrian. We had such a great time exploring an area of the city we would not have ventured to otherwise! It was just two of us and Adrian making it an intimate tour which allowed us to ask all the questions and enjoy amazing food while learning about what we were eating. Adrian was incredibly knowledgable, passionate and informative as we toured the market. We stopped at great spots and tried some very tasty items! We were stuffed after the tour. Make sure you show up hungry! Everything was very organized, thought through and would definitely recommend this for friends and family who are traveling to CDMX and want to explore something different!

We went on a fantastic taco tour with Fernando. The food was truly amazing and his knowledge of both the history and the cuisine was an added bonus.
We also turd a market and ate there as well as saw the array of fresh food, spices and local specialties. We saw tortillas bring made as well.
Highly recommend the taco tour!

We had a great street food tour with our guide, Fernando! He took us to a lot of local spots and let us try tacos, tortas and other things we hadn’t tried before! He was very fun and had a great attitude! When we asked to try things that weren’t part of the scheduled tour he was very accommodating!

Our family of 4 had an amazing experience with our resident expert foodie and La Merced market guide, Ariane. This historic and vast mercado is used by local families and businesses and is colorful and bustling. Ariane knew it inside out and the local vendors were happy to see her and super hospitable to us. The stops and food we experienced were out of this world! All local specialties and fabulously fresh: tomales, tacos, quesadillas, moles, alotes, etc. We would not have been able to do this on our own and felt privileged to experience the best of the best in her capable hands. We would highly recommend this tour for authentic CDMX and with our wonderful guide Ariane. She also emailed us a recap of each stop and bite we enjoyed which is such a treat to take home. All in all, a pure delight!

Nico & Hector were INCREDIBLE guides! This experience was probably my favorite thing we did on our 6 day trip to Mexico City. There's absolutely no way we could have navigated La Merced on our own, nor would I have wanted to. We booked a private tour for 7 of us and Nico & Hector guided us expertly through the authentic chaos of the market. Not only did we learn about customary cooking techniques while eating we also got bits of history and culture. We were absolutely stuffed by the end and it was worth every penny; especially not having to stumble through Spanglish to order or pay for anything. We also felt very safe and taken care of in a more 'local' environment and were not apprehensive to eat anything knowing that each stand was vetted for us. Do bring water with you and shoes you don't mind getting dirty. Nico and Hector are both clearly super educated in this field (and have college degrees in culinary industry both from a food safety and cultural standpoint). The were warm, kind, funny, and spoke perfect English. I have no notes - this tour was awesome!

Our food tour and canal ride in Xochimilco was an incredible experience that I’ll cherish forever. Our knowledgeable host ensured we felt completely taken care of while introducing us to foods we’d never have tried on our own. The highlight for me was the most delicious quesadilla I’ve ever eaten—I thought about it for the rest of the trip, wishing I could eat it again and again! The canal ride was pure joy, with lively mariachi bands on neighboring boats adding to the festive and authentic Mexican atmosphere.

This was a blast - cannot recommend it too highly. Our guide, Fernando, was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and empathetic. His tour was balanced to perfection with great and diverse street food and an insider’s guide to the markets. We ate everything from blue crab to turkey, from fruits to cheeses Mexican style and even tried insects and worms - everything was delicious.
Street food is such an important part of Mexican culture you miss so much if you do not try it.
And no digestive issues afterwards.

Hi there Anoj, thanks for your info. I am going in 3 weeks to DF and would like to do a food tour, eating crickets, nopales etc etc. Adrian sounds like an awesome passionate and educational tour guide, which of his tours did you do-. I love markets and street food and would love to see where the locals are - away from the more touristy places. Does anyone else recommend their particular guide or tour name please. Is it the whole day- do you get extra time to wonder on your own through the markets.
Are the markets easily accessible by oneself- public transport or close to any of the other places one might like to see like the Frida Kahlo museum, Antropologica Museo etc?

It's all accessible but starting with the tour will help orient you. And yes agree, Spanish is helpful. Frida is fun on the weekends bc Coyoacan neighborhood also has a terrific food market with tons of stands to eat with locals - buy your Frida tickets online to avoid the line.
