We really loved this experience. So many beautiful textiles to see. During our visit they also had an amazing installation of marionettes and puppets on the lower level.
Also, the Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán next to the museum is probably the most beautiful (IMO) of all of the churches and cathedrals in San Cristobol de las Casas.
A must see! But, be forewarned, this place is not easy to find! The tourist map and google maps took us pretty far off off the beaten path. We gave up and accidentally found it on our way back to the city center. The whole property is encompassed by artisan and curio tents. It's hard to find an access point. But, don't give up! It's worth the adventure!

Exellent museum. Gorgeous examples of Mayan handicrafts and artistry. The museum is in a lovely former cloister and the displays are well designed and user friendly. Be sure to look into every drawer! This is my third visit in 20 years and I hope to return again. Another bonus is that it is right beside an HUGE open air market with similar merchandise. But visit the museum first before shopping. (The museum’s gift shop sells amazing pieces, but at a mark-up.)

Muy interesante y didáctica experiencia. Puedes ver el desarrollo de la parte textil a través del tiempo. Los videos son muy recomendables.

We had looked forward eagerly to this museum, but alas it was closed, as was the church next door. Our landlord explained that it was due to structural damage from the 2017 earthquake, so even lifting Covid-19 restrictions won't result in its reopening any time soon.

Due to the earthquakes of September_2017 this along with most worthy beautiful buildings are closed

A wonderful collection of textiles. If you love textiles, be sure to give yourself time to really take a look and enjoy. The museum shop is not always open when it says so I missed the opportunity to make several purchases before I had to leave. I would definitely go back to visit!!

It's a free admission for the textile museum. Only the historical museum that is in the same building charges a small admission fee.

Is it possible to visit the museum if we arrive in Puerto Chiapas on a cruise ship? My wife is a weaver and we would like to see the museum if it is possible to get there in one day by taxi from Puerto Ciapas.

Hi Henri!, unfortunately Puerto Chiapas is far from San Cristobal, (5-6 hrs. max. by car one way) all depends on the hours you have available to come and go, if you need more help let me know!

Hola Socorro! el museo abre de martes a domingo de 9:00 - 17:45, tiene un costo de $46 mxn solo de martes a sábado, si tienes credencial de estudiante, adultos mayores de 60 años, niños menores de 13 años o con alguna discapacidad no pagan entrada, supongo que 25 no abrirá y probablemente el 31 cierren temprano, pero te dejo el numero telefónico y la página por si gustas checar, para tener más seguridad!
