Lenateros have everything when it comes to paper - fabricating paper from plant fiber, recycling paper, making prints, books, notebooks, diaries, you name it. I took a workshop of making recycled paper, and spent 4 interesting hours knowing the whole process of how paper is made, old school way (more or less). Knowledgable and friendly staff as well, worth a visit and spending some dollars which goes into right hands.

Fui a este lugar por accidente! y fue lo mejor de la vida, todos ahi se portaron super amables nos explicaron todo. Ademas esta super barato por todo el trabajo que hacen la vdd es que me encanto y compramos mil postales. Aceptan tarjeta
I got to this place by accident! And it was the best, everyone was very nice and explained how all the process works. It is also super cheap and everything from scratch. They have very pretty products and they take cards!

This delightful bookshop and paper-making workshop provides a fascinating window into the production of handmade paper from local fibres. Taller Lenateros prides itself with making the first books in the Mayan language published since the Spanish Conquest. After touring the workshop stop by the bookshop where you can purchase hand-pulled prints, postcards, address books, pop-out books, and exquisite art books with cast paper sculpture covers. Exquisite!

Fuimos a tomar un taller para hacer papel y ha sido de las mejores experiencias que hemos tenido. El grupo quedó encantado con la clase, la atención y el haber podido hacer su propio papel fue lo mejor.

You can find Los Lenateros products all over town, but this is where they're made. The American-owned workshop employs Maya men and women to make paper products using recycled cartons and natural fibers and materials, including flowers. It's possible to tour the workshop to view the whole process and to take photos. You don't have to speak Spanish but it obviously helps. (Say, "Me gustaria tener un recorrido por el taller, por favor".)
There is a small shop in the front of the workshop area with an absolutely beautiful assortment of notebooks, cards, and papers. In addition, there are clever pop-up books, art prints, poetry books, etc.-all on local Maya themes. It's a great place to buy gifts for yourself and friends.

Si visitas esta ciudad, no puedes dejar de visitar este bello taller en donde mujeres indígenas hacen poesía y la plasman en lindos cuadernos rústicos hechos con flores, raíces, cortezas y hojas provenientes de las montañas y selva de este bello estado de Chiapas.
Además si andas con tiempo, puedes tomarte un taller y aprender directamente de ellas la manera como hacer este tipo de papel a mano.
Definitivamente tienes que visitar el taller Leñateros-

If you are looking for handmade papers of all kinds, some with flowers embedded in the sheets of paper, made of natural and recycled materiales, this is the place to go to! I myself put an order for a certain size of paper which I picked up a couple of days later during my stay. There you can also find cards, booklets and other paper goodies, great for presents!

This is a workshop of local artists who create and print original books based on indigenous designs and using recycled materials with additional scents from different local plants. You can watch on site the production process and then buy some of the samples they offer in a little shop.
