the local guides are at the entrance, not at the Cenote. I totally encoraje to get one because you a can learn so much about the place.

When i went to the tour i left from my hotel to chichen itza, then to valladolid, to my undertanding there are two cenotes, one which the cenote sagrado at chichen itza which you can not swim there, from the great pyrimad to that cenote sagrado is a good 10 minute walk deping on your own pace, now at valladolid the cenote there u can swim and they do tell you its at ur own risk since it is really deep. But yes both cenotes are worth going too especially the one at valladolid that one is just like amazing! Hope this answer helps you!

Sharon- The cenote at Chichen Itza is not really suitable for swimming. I did not swim at Ik Kil myself but I believe it is beautiful. It is very close to Chichen Itza. There are several amazing cenotes around the Yucatan peninsula. Depending on where you are staying, there is likely to be one near you for another day.

Hola Rosina, en los cenotes no hay salvavidas, son zonas naturales en las que entras por gusto, hay cenotes donde solo puedes ir a verlos, no entrar, en los que estuve realmente no son muy accesibles para personas de edad avanzada ya que por lo regular es muy húmedo y el piso es resbaloso. Pero te puedo recoemendar estos cenotes. Cenote Aktun Chen, se encuentra ubicado en la Carretera Federal 307, Km 107 entre Akumal y Xel-Ha, se trata de un parque temático, cavernas y cenote que se puede visitar con toda la familia. Hay servicios, guias y tirolesas. Lo más recomendable es contratar un tour con transportación viaje redondo, te saldrá más económico y te llevan y traen de regreso a tu hotel. CEnote Manatee Esta a 11 kilómetros al norte de Tulum y es un excelente lugar para snorkelear, nadar y practicar un poco de kayac. Hay restaurante, baños y en general las instalaciones son adecuadas para pasar un buen día en familia y disfrutar de este hermoso cenote. Es recomendable llevar repelente para insectos, sobre todo para mosquitos. Respeta los señalamientos En varios de estos cenotes no hay servicios, así que procura ir preparado. Preferible si contratas un tour con transportación viaje redondo. Puedes ir en taxi pero pregunta quien te ofrece una buena tarifa, sobre todo si puedes tomarlo desde Playa del Carmen. En algunos cenotes no se permite la entrada a mascotas ni con cremas, bloqueadores o productos que no sean biodegradables.
