Great site for those who love history. You can explore by yourself or with a tour guide. I absolutely recommend the guide . Our guide Nacho was very informative about the ruins themselves, Mayan culture, and about the jungle itself. It's a bit out of the way and takes a while to drive to. however it's remoteness is also a perk since it was not super crowded and let us experience the ruins without having to deal with massive crowds getting in the way.

Our family of 5 visited the ruins earlier this month as part of a Carnival Cruise excursion. This place was amazing! While the ruins were not as large as others on the mainland, it is a location rich with history. Iguanas could be spotted everywhere! It was very hot when we toured the location, but was pleased that our guide made a point to stop us in shaded areas. Mosquito spray is a must!!!

Soy de Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua y me declaro amante de la gran cultura Maya así que todo lo relacionado con ella me encanta 🤩
Son ruinas pequeñas pero con una gran historia sobre la princesa Ixchel. Nosotros vacacionamos en Playa del Carmen y nos cruzamos en el ferry, no tomamos tour con nadie pues encanta tomarnos nuestro tiempo viendo cada detalle y siento que en tour no se disfruta tanto. A la entrada nos recibió José Antonio Maldonado, ampliamente recomendado, te explica todo a detalle y su manera de hacerlo es muy amena, se nota que sabe y que disfruta lo que hace. Si pudiera le compraba una grabación para escuchar la historia de San Gervasio miles de veces 😍 Para mi, vale la pena cada ruina que me encuentre ❤️👌

Vale mucho la pena visitar el sitio arqueológico de San Gervasio, su arquitectura es diferente a otros sitios de la cultura Maya, ya que al encontrarse en una isla tiene múltiples influencias arquitectónicas de otras áreas. Tuvimos la oportunidad de estar acompañados en nuestra visita del prácticante para guías Antonio, quien nos brindó un recorrido fantástico y nos ayudó valorar y entender el yacimiento arqueológico.

What a great hidden find. The ruins here are like a Mexican Stone Henge. They way the ancients setup the sight is really fascinating. The story of how the Legend of El Dorado came to be was fascinating. Ivan our guide was great

Would definitely recommend! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and professional! Make sure to have bug repellent for the mosquitoes!

We loved Chichén Itzá, and were on the fence about visiting this relatively small site. We are so glad we did! Like visiting Chichén Itzá, getting a guide after entering (and paying the initial entry fee) was the way to go. Pablo, our guide was wonderful. We are frugal travelers, but visiting these sites with a guide is worth every penny. We got there relatively early (9:15ish) and were out before the tour busses arrived en mass. Probably not worth doing if you don't get a guide.... the info at each area is minimal. Every worker we encountered there was friendly and professional. If you can snag Pablo as a guide, you'll have an amazing experience! Added bonus... it had just rained and the mosquitoes were out in force. For $1 per person we were sprayed with repellant upon entering and only on bite between the three of us! Guide cost was $30. Would have been worth twice that!

Realmente se disfruta mucho con el recorrido y el conocer más acerca de la cultura maya dentro de esta zona arqueológica, consejo: lleven repelente para mosquitos, y agradezco mucho al practicante de guía turístico Antonio Maldonado, realmente se ve que disfruta y conoce mucho acerca de las ruinas y de la cultura maya en general, fue muy enriquecedor dar el tour con el ya que hubo muchas construcciones de las cuales nos dio información adicional a lo que viene inscrito en las placas de información de la zona y ayudo mucho a comprender mejor el porque de la forma de una construcción o el como funcionaba dicha edificación

I keep seeing that the price to get in is around $9? Is that US dollars or pesos? Same questions for taxis or renting a car. Someone asked about transportation around the island. Another answered $60 for the taxis and around $100 plus gas for the car. Is that is pesos or US dollars?

Take bug spray! We were over ran with mesquito when we visited. We also went through a tour company and our entrance fee was included in the tour cost, but if you choose to have a personal tour guide, you will have to pay extra - I was thinking it was $20 - but after the tour we realized , we could have taken the pamphlet and went on our own and learned as much. Plus there will be people offering to spray you with bug spray for $1 when you arrive as well -- don't fall for this --- I found my hand sanitizer worked well on keeping the mesquitos away better than the bug spray the others used.

il prezzo del taxi è per persona o complessivo? cioè si può salire in 4 ? dura 4 ore, cioè ti aspetta mentre visiti? ti accompagna anche in una spiaggia?? quanto costa l'ingresso al sito con le rovine Maya? Grazie
I was curious if you did this excursion on your own i read somewhere it was like $5 entry fee into the area and now i cant find that information anywhere again. the other question is how long of a ride is it from port could i grab a taxi for a reasonable rate.

We did this as part of a cruise line excursion - it's about an hour-long ride to the site, which they broke up with a stop at a beach with some interesting rock formations. I don't remember exact cost, but I felt safer than trying to catch a taxi and we got some good information about the history of the area on the way as well as a guided tour at the site.
How far is San Gervasio from cruise port, I think I read 11 miles...Can we just rent our own vehicle and drive there and how much is charge to explore. Going in 2 weeks with Carnival Thanks

If we take a taxi from cruise port to ruins, will there be taxis waiting to pick up fares at the ruins when we are ready to leave? Also, how much should we expect to pay for a taxis for 4 to the ruins?

I am not sure if taxis would be waiting for you for at the ruins, but you can always make arrangements in advance with the tax driver who brought you. Most of the taxi drivers speak at least a little English and all take cash, pesos and I think credit cards as well.

I get motion sick, so I am wondering if the trip from the cruise port to the San Gervasio site is on a winding road or if part of the travel could make me car/bus sick?

There is a narrow road from the main guest into the site. It’s not super far, so I think you’ll be ok. Bring non drowsy Dramamine just in case? Google pressure points on your wrists, if works for some people.. Bring bug spray and spray under clothes, mosquitoes are so ridiculous they bite through clothing. 😬
