Closed. The Cozumel store, Arte de Origen, closed several months ago.
My wife and I were disappointed and really put out. We paid for a wasted cab ride to the store's listed location.We were looking forward to buying handmade items for ourselves as well as gifts for our friends.
Before departing on the cruise, we checked Arte de Origen's web site. NO MENTION was made that the Cozumel store was closed. Very, very bad public relations and marketing.

Hi, sorry to heard this. I tryed to delate this shop since he closed. But Tripadvisor didnt. sorry again.

On our recent vacation to Cozumel, I browsed the shops in the downtown area. Most looked alike and had the same "stuff" over and over again. On my way back to the Intercontinental, I stopped at Royal Village Mall as the shops there seemed to offer something a bit different and nicer. I stepped into Arte de Origin and was very pleased with the art I saw, the visual display of it, and the friendliness and respectfulness of the salesperson. I ended up buying a few pieces by an artist from the Baja region of Mexico and am delighted with my purchase. The shop offered truly a different cultural and artistic experience from any other shop in Cozumel. Highly recommended!

Visitar ese lugar fue toda una experiencia. Sobre todo por lo servicial de sus empleados, hace tiempo visite la tienda en Cabo san Lucas y me sucedió lo mismo. Sus artesanias son unicas y diferentes.
Recomiendo ampliamente que la visiten y se lleven algo, quedaran fascinados con la originalidad se sus artesanías y lo mejor de todo es el material que usan y lo que pueden lograr con el.

This trip to Cozumel was via Oasis of the Seas (cruise ship). Arte de Origen stood out from main stream. Shop was extremely simple yet beautiful and attractive. Service was excellent and handmade products were fantastic. We loved the feeling and atmosphere. Salesperson was polite and helpful and most important not too pushy. Prices were just a bit high for buying all gifts for friends and family, but we got nice unique piece of art for our home. Delivery system made shopping easy and attractive. We can and will commend Arte de Origen to everybody.

En un viaje de placer después de haber visto todas la opciones de souvenirs y arte de Cancún, playa y Cozumel. Tuve la fortuna de encontrarme con esta propuesta de Arte donde quede maravillado por el gran respeto a esta profesión si bien se dice que a cada uno le llega de manera diferente en lo personal ah sido mi mejor experiencia LO RECOMIENDO Y LOS DESAFÍO A QUE TENGAN SU EXPERIENCIA FELICIDADESSSS !!!

La galería de Arte de origen ofrece un concepto diferente, me quede impresionada al saber que sus tapices y muchas de sus piezas, no estan pintadas, sino que son trozos de papel cuidadosamente ubicados y pegados, lo que le aporta color y vida a las piezas. Es increíble ver tanto trabajo reunido en cada pieza, definitivamente es un lugar al que hay que ir a visitar.

This trip to Cozumel was via cruise ship. While most of my group went to the beaches, I strolled the lively streets and colorful window displays. I simply could not walk past Arte de Origen. The unique, Mexican made, cultural art pieces displayed in the shop window were mesmerizing. I particularly liked the handmade lacquered boxes of paper collages, flecked with gold or in patina as they are not only practical, but unique cultural artwork for any decor. Each is box is different...very natural and organic... and some have fabric or leather ties which securely clasp the lids. I like to travel with a small jewelry box and this "tie" secures the box closed in any position. Ivan was so patient while I pondered over the many choices. Once, he go an idea of my taste, he even went in the back to find exactly what I wanted. I did buy three and was the envy of the ship when I returned with my purchases.

Mi hermano me dijo: mira... ven a ver este lugar...
Yo entré y encontré un lugar repleto de colores, todos provenientes de las increibles y maravillosas piezas de arte ahi exhibidas, increibles porque no crees que esten hechas de pequeños pedacitos de papel de colores y maravillosas porque crean texturas que parecen salirse del plano.
Doy gracias a mi hermano Alejandro por haber encontrado Arte de Origen y por haberme regalado mi hermoso tapiz color chocolate!!!

Mi è capitato di entrare nella galleria Arte de Origen perchè sono stata attratta da questo particolare modo di costruire gli oggetti e dalla grande varietà di scelta di vere e proprie opere d'arte presenti della cultura messicana.Mi ha servito Alessandro,gentilissimo e molto preparato.Se capitate da quelle parti vi consiglio di visitare proprio quel particolare negozio.

I've been vacationing in Cozumel for over 10 years and enjoy looking for gifts that are uniquely from Mexico. During this last trip I discovered Arte de Origen and was pleasantly surprised to see so many beautiful hand-crafted items that are truly unique and can't be found in any of the typical tourist stores on the island. Arte de Origen is more like a gallery than a store; the items are displayed in a way that allows you to enjoy the pieces as you would in a gallery.
The gentlemen that run the gallery are very knowledgeable about the items and processes used to make them. One thing I very much appreciated is that they're passionate about the artistic aspects of the items without having the pushy hard-sell approach that visitors typically encounter elsewhere.
This is an upscale place and most of the items offered are beyond the typical T-shirt/shot glass price points. This was a plus for me because I wanted something classy that reflected the local culture. There are a few things priced inexpensively for people who want something more unique than the things that are sold at the touristy stores.
I really enjoyed the visit and am looking forward to my next trip - Arte de Origen will be on my list of places to visit!
