The views are amazing. Presentation is excellent. Truly the heart of Merida.
Variety of building architectural styles reflecting the history and wealth of Merida in its heyday. It is a tree lined avenue. Similar to Reforma in Mexico City.Strongly recommend to walk Paseo de Montego. It is a very easy and enjoyable walk. The La Patria monument is on a roundabout on the Paseo de Montego and is a highlight. Strongly recommend to visit during day and then at night as it has a different feel between day and night. At beginning of Pasea de Montego there is a statue of Montego. There is a historic house museum which makes an interesting and informative visit.

An atmosphere steeped in history. You should definitely go and feel it. It is very difficult to understand in depth without guides. If you are coming in summer, be aware that it will be very hot.

The Paseo de Montejo is a large avenue of about 6 kilometers; it is named after Francisco Montejo, the founder of the city of Merida.
Along the avenue you find beautiful mansions, paddles, monuments,
public and private institutions, restaurants, bars;
plus leafy trees and roundabouts.
It is a pleasure to walk along this avenue or ride it in a horse-drawn carriage.
Highly recommended, you will enjoy it!!

Very sad to see the horses spend hours in the heat. They do not look well cared for and their hours are too long without rest. I wish the authorities would take more care of these beautiful and noble animals that have no voice of their own.

The Lonely Planet guide compares the Paseo de Montejo to the Champs-Elysées - the author has probably never been to Paris. The old colonial houses are beautiful from afar, but far from beautiful. The majority of them are in advanced decay.
The few restaurants and shops are to be forgotten.
Disappointing (like Merida, by the way).

Trying to find the positive side of things, there are particular businesses that make it enjoyable. Some buildings are worthy of admiration, but they are very deteriorated. On the other hand, many places are abandoned. I took my daughters with great expectations, but I think they are not at their best

Definitely a place that you have to visit day and night, during the day visit the open days that are a museum, and at night prepare for a calandria tour, a dinner in an open place, or simply enjoy the music 🎶 and a good drink 🍷, I loved it. The only recommendation I make is that the government supports the owners of the abandoned houses so that they are part of the attraction of this avenue.

Excursion carried out with the Secretoo agency:
The excursion went wonderfully. Jorge took great care of us, we loved sharing this morning together.
Jorge knows the history of his region perfectly, and was very passionate and cheerful in presenting it to us.
It also allowed us to discover many traditional recipes at the market. The tasting moment is the highlight of the excursion. This also made it possible to exchange in a very friendly way with Jorge.
This is exactly what we were looking for, immersing ourselves in the local culture through history and food.

Is it safe to bicycle in Merida? How are the streets for bicycling (cobblestones?) ? thanks,

We have lived here a long time and would never bike here. There are accidents every day from cars hitting cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists. However, Sunday mornings, I think from 9am-noon or so, a portion of Paseo Montejo is closed to cars and people come out to bike. Sometimes they also do this on a Saturday night. Bikes are available for rent or bring your own. There are several bike clubs in the area who do biking throughout the state as groups or train for bike events.

Hay uno en esquina que se llama Rosas y Xocolate, la comida es buena así como el ambiente del lugar, habría que preguntar que tiene preparado para ese día y puedas decidir!
