We went to the Merville Battery on the 80th anniversary of D Day as the beaches we’re going to be difficult to access, I’m glad we did as it was a superb experience, in particular the sound and light show inside one of the bunkers. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who has an interest in WW2.

It’s quite a big place, spread out. Everything is very well done, signposted and documented.
Interesting historical items are on display. Watch out for the bunker with audio/visuals. It’s VERY loud.

We visited the Battery and we were totally amazed. The place is well looked after, the bunkers very well preserved and lots of information. Incredible the history about the 9th Parachute Regiment and what they had achieved in 1944.

One of the best sites to visit during the Second World War. For us it is a must. Every time we come to Normandy, we will go there. Sounds and lights at the top, making us relive with emotions, the taking of the drums by the Allies. We knew it in its beginnings, when there was the specific smell that accompanied sound and light. Too bad it's not there anymore but it doesn't change the quality of the feeling of this experience.

If handicapped, do say so, there is a reduction in the entry fee. The information boards are extremely interesting, if you don't speak French there are audio phones available. A very good insight as to how the German Atlantic Wall was constructed. Difficult today to believe in the 2nd World War this battery overlooked the beaches. The video and sound show are definitely worth watching. The only slight criticism is that there isn't a clearly marked route to take around the site.

It is hard to imagine the hell experienced on 5 and 6 June 1944 by soldiers on both sides. Today everything seems quiet in this place of which only the visitable casemates remain. At the entrance a pleasant store offers many souvenirs related to this terrible assault.

Very good visit for the memory duty.
The sound system via the smartphone is a very good idea and allows for the Audio Guide tour.
From the entrance, we are put in the bath, the visit of the plane is impressive. In addition, we had the chance to interact with passionate and exciting volunteers.
The continuation of the visit is very interesting and allows to relive the emotions of the soldiers at our level that the brave soldiers were able to live.
The tour ends with a simulation that will make you feel better.

What a tribute to the English who came to take the Battery!! The circuit is very well thought out. It is possible to climb in a C47, the hangar to shelter it presents models and reconstructions very well done. Then we go from bunker to bunker, one in particular that pays a vibrant tribute to the English soldiers. And one with a sound and light reconstruction of the battery socket, extremely well done.

Beautiful remarkable site that traces events that marked our history. Discovery of the interior of a warplane while visiting the bunkers. It's all there.

Notice au voleur de mon chapeau Stetson le 2 juin. Le chapeau était sous le classeur dans les toilettes du ''Snafu special". J'ai un cancer du peau, très contageux. Ne touchez pas le chapeau et surtout ne le mettez pas sur la tête si vous vouler éviter la maladie. Mercie de bien vouloir le rendre en le mettant dans la boîte aux lettres au Musée. Merci,.... et que le bon Dieu vous punisse!

I was disappointed to read your review. Perhaps you needed to read up a little more on the battle of Merville. The men of 9 para were the true unsung heroes of the D-Day landings, without whom many more would have lost their lives on the beaches. The battery has been set up to be a lasting memory of these men and I know the people of Merville have treated the now very few surviving members of 9 para with the utmost respect they deserve. Any funds raised from this "tourist attraction" as you put it goes into maintaining these memorials. We must never forget them.

Please do not misrepresent me in print. I shall copy and paste my full review of The Merville Batterie in full as it is evident you have not read it. Happy to answer questions yours was not one, simply the ramblings of an idiot.
My review "The events which led up to The Invasion of France are many and the acts of bravery are numerous. However, this was one which I knew little of. You really must visit this battery and should be rightfully thankful of the audacious attack on the Merville Guns"
