So here we are once again in this cultural centre for the arts, originally built as a cloister beginning in 1755...events in more recent times led to the facility being used as exhibition galleries, national art and cultural institute studies and a place for individuals to visit as a grand tourist site..there is a very delightful coffee shop , a book store , musical and art events and many opportunities to be involved in art classes...there is always a special event to occupy your time and interest...

We had the most wonderful breakfast at the cafe. It was chilly that day, but the cafe provided us with cozy blankets. After our meal, we walked around looking at the view from the back, murals, and paintings. It was a lovely morning.

This is a beautiful heritage hub of activities that locals and expats use for sundry arts classes. But it's scenic colonial, cool architecture provides a welcome pause and rest, as well as its cafe, and reliable, clean bathrooms for visitors--free!

This former convent, turned army barracks turned Museo has eclectic exhibits ranging from murals by Diego Rivera to currently showing a sensory hands-on classical music experience, it is a great place to sit In the shade, Please stay off yourIPhones!

Just to see the courtyard is worth doing. Beautiful architecture.
This used to be a nunnery and is now an arts center. There were some outdoor sculptures and an indoor gallery with an interesting exhibit of a mobile made of cymbals.
There is a cafe too but I didn’t have time to try that.

Lovely courtyard with great views from the upstairs. I didn't have time to check out all of the exhibits, but they were mixed media.

my 14 year old son is an aspiring artist and we will be in san miguel this summer. are there summer art classes at Bellas Artes he can take and how do we sign up?

I don't know if there are summer art classes at Bellas Artes. The classes there are no longer available to anyone but Mexicans but perhaps the summer is different. Buy a copy of the newspaper Atencion when you arrive and check the ads in the back. Often there are teachers advertising classes.
