A long drive to get there, I was quite disappointed to be honest as there is really not much there, a small beach which you weren't able to let dogs off lead, there didn't appear to be much to see apart from a few local stalls and a couple of pubs, unless you live close by I wouldn't bother

Sewage stench. What a travesty for such a pretty area. As soon as you get on the beach within the harbour wall, the smell is disgusting. You can see sewage is in the water, collecting/trapped along the harbour wall. It's lapping along shoreline too. We couldn't believe how busy the beach was, and all ages swimming. Yuk! I'm an avid sea swimmer but I'd never have got in on this day we visited. What are we doing to our coastlines and waterways!! It's criminal!!
Along with the car parking issues highlighted in so many posts plus being discussed as we stood by the parking machine, Hope Cove community /councillors/MP/Water authorities, needs to address the issues urgently.
Guessing some tourists are regulars and therefore are blinkered to issues as will always return. But there must be so many, like us, who will take our custom elsewhere. Parking companies prey on small errors or oversights to prise money from you. They feed off their fines.
Water companies are negligent. Without continued voices of refusal for us to accept these sewage discharges, they'll continue as they're doing. Thankfully legislation is tightening up. But we all need to keep up the momentum. Since when has it been acceptable for the UK to have our children /families swimming in muck :-(. We're becoming 3rd world.

Beware of the car park run by premier parking solutions!!!
Image a mistake and didn't put ALL the car reg on the ticket
They fined me £60, I appealed and showed them the ticket I had bought and they STILL fined me.
They have NO compassion or understanding, they just want the money.
I had a Ticket, left before it ran out and a simple mistake of entering the full reg correctly has cost £60.
They really don't care.

Car parking at Hope Cove is run with the aim of trapping customers into paying fines . I payed for my parking, have a ticket but failed to input my car registration. £100:00 fine.

Hope cove has a beautiful beach, but unfortunately it’s spoilt by the smell of sewage. In addition, dogs have to be kept on lead at all times, which is fine, but it’s not ideal for exercising young or energetic dogs.

This is the most beautiful place ever. Love swimming in the bay even in May! The Cove is the best pub ever with amazing food.Lots of amazing walks from here. So look forward to our yearly retreat. Love walking my dog around the thatched cottages in outer hope at night in the moonlight. 💕perfect place 👌

Lovely beach - wonderful cafes and pub - but AVOID the car park - it is owned by a couple in Totnes who rent it out to Premier Parking Solutions. I'd be happy to share the details of their business with anyone who would like to contact them directly. The car park is not owned by the council or the town - at least then some of the money would be invested back into the local community.

It’s undoubtably a loverly beach for both a walk and dip in the sea. But the council do all they can to catch visitors in the car park. Firstly to park is very expensive and difficult in summer but more annoying is they use cameras which log your exact time in and out of the car park and you receive a fine if your just one minute over. This catches visitors out because they think that as long as they are back at their car and vacate within a few minutes they are okay only to receive a fine through the post when they get home.

We have been going to Hope Cove for nearly 50 years with friends and have always loved the place. Sadly after some terrible experiences with the car park adjacent to the beach we have decided to take our breaks elsewhere. Very sad but reading some of the reviews of other peoples experiences with the car park it appears that we are not the only ones to have made this decision.

Hi G2161QHmikeh there are two storm overflow outlets at the cove they are not sewage outlets but storm drains, last water sample taken was excellent.

We have been to hope cover quite a few times now,been to salcombe and kings bridge,we are staying in hope cove,Can anyone recommend other places to visit.We would prefer not to drive so maybe get a bus or train!

I'm not sure about bus and rail routes but you have some fantastic places close by.
If you want beaches there are Thurlestone, Bantham, Challaborough, Beesands etc. I would definitely recommend Torcross/Slapton Sands.
For scenery there is East Prawle with stunning views back to Salcombe.
At Start Point there is a lighthouse worth seeing.
Dartmouth is similar to Salcombe so worth a visit.
Brixham would be top of my list for places nearby with it's amazing harbour.
Popular attractions too would be Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts in Torquay and Babbicombe Model Village.
Just a few of so many places worth seeing.

Are there buses or any public transportation that go to Hope Cove from either Totnes or Exeter? We haven’t quite decided which city to make as our base in exploring Hope Cove, Dartmouth, Bayards Cove, Salcombe (“The Coroner”). We will then go on to Doc Martin’s Port Wenn (Port Isaac) and maybe St. Ives, too.
I might as well ask the forum for suggestions on the best base for visiting these seaside towns and how to get there by bus or train. We are coming from the US. We’re quite intimidated driving on the “other,” especially around roundabouts.

Hello, the roads to hope cove are very narrow country roads so I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to drive. Buses are available to hope cove from Salcombe, depending on time you travel you may have to change in Marlborough, lovely area definitely worth a visit, not much going in in hope cove so I would stay somewhere else and visit it for a day. Hope this helps

A few cafes and pubs, dog friendly. Great coastal walks, watch out for the cliff edge with your dog though. It will be super busy in high season and I don’t think dogs can go on beach during the summer months.

I believe the Cove does and the food is very good, but it's a small place and food can take a while coming out. The owner/manager can be a bit bolshy and defensive read some of his responses to any criticism on here!!

There's some local galleries in Salcombe, lots of shops to browse and lovely cafes and pubs dotted about. Head to south sands and air in the bar watching the waves crash or maybe head out to Dartmouth for a steamtrain ride to paignton or river boat cruise to the castle

hi i didnt go to the pubs around as was only there 3 days and we stayed at the cottage hotel that has the bar and restaurant and is open to non residents.. when we went walking the pub near the cove looked really busy so i would say it was popular hope this helps a bit .....

To be honest, i don't think that cheap B & B is a thing for Hope Cove. We stayed at The Sun Bay Hotel. The food and service were excellent. The rooms were quite small and when we were there, were in need of refurbishment Room 7 was beautiful but more expensive than the other rooms. The rooms which are deemed "sea view" are sea view if you can stretch.
