What an incredible place! You have to stop in the gift shop and chat with the wonderful volunteers dedicated to that place! These ladies have made us want to come back for each special season and event! The trails and paths even in October were beautiful, we managed to be there during the salmon spawning. Well marked, free and so worth the visit! Thank you for places like this!!!

My Grade 2 class loved the group activity of catching bugs. They and the teachers enjoyed the exploring of the grounds and climbing the tower!
Lovely place and we got to see a crane (Blue Heron!). Staff are very friendly and Meghan was wonderful with the children!

The Blue Heron Reserve is always a delight to visit. There are several picnic tables around, nice clean washrooms and lots of trails to explore.
Bring your binoculars and camera as there are a lot of photo ops here.
When the Herons are nesting, some trails are blocked so as not to disturb the Herons but a nice walk down the dike will bring you to an area where you can view them in their nests.
This is a great place for young and old alike. Bring a picnic lunch and allow for a good couple hours to enjoy this interesting Wetland

We enjoyed more than an hour of exploring the reserve and all the trails. This is a great oasis and a super spot to just stroll. We didn't even get into the interpretive centre. You could easily spend 2+ hours if you enjoy walking and some great scenery.

Our Grade 3 class did two of the programs organized by the reserve for our field trip. The guide was very knowledgeable and clearly had a lot of experience in pond and wetland biodiversity. We also spent some time walking the trails and doing other nature activities near the tower. This is a nice place to escape for some natural R&R, or as a field trip for one of the organized educational programs. Overall, it was very enjoyable and we learned a lot!

On June 1, 2021, we went on a fieldtrip with the Grade Four Class. Our program was Wetlands. Our presenter, Michael, told us many interesting thing about beavers, frogs, woodpeckers, herons, and bald eagles. Also that the heron colony had moved more land inwards after the tree with the bald eagle nest collapsed, because the nest was so heavy and big. We never knew that bald eagles protect the heron colony against predators. The herons seem not to mind that the eagles take sometimes one of their young as a reward for their protection. So, when the eagles moved, the herons moved with them. We heard about the Salish Sucker who is rare and was cought by our presentor underneath one of the bridges, about invasive species of frogs, which were brought by people who had them for pets. We heard about the Sumas Lake what was turned into farm land and about an invasive species of grass (canary reed grass) that the farmers first had grown for their cattle, but later on found out that it had not much nutrients in it. It also was invasive and took parts of the Wetland away .It was just a very interesting fieldtrip. Our presentor had aloud voice, so we all could follow his explanation. He used all the precious time we had; started in time and gave us some more time after our hour. We saw herons, bald eagles, swallows, redwing blackbirds, mallards, fish, rabbits, heard the bull frog and identified lots fo plants. He told is about the yellow flag iris, which also was becoming invasive. We had a real good presentation and walked some more trails.

Really enjoyed the hike through the grounds. Did not see herons as it was late in the season. Want to go back in the spring. Saw turtles, humingbirds, variety of ducks. Interpretive center was worth the visit!

Overall a great, engaging field trip for our Grade 2/3's! The facilitators were skilled with the kids and very knowledgeable. Lots of hands-on activities which is so important for a field trip! The wildlife art was good but they could really use a projector of some kind so the kids can actually see what the artist is doing. A little disappointing that there were so few salmon spawning, as that was the main reason we chose this time of year to come. But that's nature -- can't predict what it's going to do!

It is a free attraction. You would have to check out the Blue Heron nesting habits to know if they are available to see. The walkways, viewing areas and paths are outstanding in the park.
