This trip was fantastic. We were on the open boat (and even were in sunshine when offshore). There was not a bad view on the boat. We saw several Humpback whales and two pods of Orcas. The blows of each were very impressive as was the size of the Humpbacks and the dorsal fins of the Orcas. Our on-board naturalist was wonderful and added a lot to the experience.
As the added bonus-the red foul weather suites provide for some great photo ops!

During a 4-night stay in Vancouver we decided to take advantage of the unexpectedly good weather and go for a whale watching tour. We're from the UK so seeing whales is something that is virtually unheard of back home.
After doing some searching online we came across Wild Whales. We initially booked a semi-covered vessel, but were informed later on that due to group numbers the semi-covered vessel wouldn't be sailing. We were instead offered a seat on the open-air vessel which given the forecast we were more than happy to agree to. Our experience was actually all the better for it!
After check in we were given special suits to keep us warm out on the water - definitely not a fashion item but provided a chance for some entertaining photos of everyone waddling to the boat.
We went into the tour knowing that there's no guarantee of seeing any whales, but thankfully Wild Whales also offer the chance to rebook for free at any time in the future if you don't see anything, so that's at least some peace of mind - if you ever plan on going back to Vancouver anyway.
We needn't have worried anyway. Within less than 15 minutes of setting off, we were following a pod of Orcas! We were with them for about 30 to 40 minutes before moving on to watch a couple of humpback whales. It was incredible seeing them multiple times coming up for air before then diving back down. Our on-board naturalist was on hand to tell us all about the whales we were seeing - they're not tracked or tagged, but distinctive markings mean that they can identify the whales and tell the histories of the individuals and families.
Seeing all this with the backdrop of Vancouver city and Stanley Park made it all the more remarkable.
We were then taken further out to see some harbour seals before returning back. The tour in total was about 3 and a half hours but it went by extremely quickly. On days where it takes longer to find the whales the tours can apparently go up to about 5 hours in length.
I would definitely recommend Wild Whales for the competitive pricing, the knowledge, and the smaller, more intimate vessels which make you feel that bit closer to the wildlife.

The experience and team could only have been better if the whales came to us! The passion for the sea, care of the whales personal safety and opportunity to simply sit in the sea and watch were very memorable and created the long lasting memories we sought out.

The crew made the trip. Britt was inspirational with her passion for wildlife and Canada. We did see humpback but it was the attention to making the trip special that impressed most.
Thank you so much.

We've just returned from a brilliant whale watching experience with Wild Whales Vancouver. We traveled in their open-style vessel on a cloudy October day and it was perfect. The anti-exposure suits were brilliant at keeping us warm and toasty (definitely recommend wearing layers underneath, including warm socks, hat and gloves).
Our guide for the day was Ashley and honestly, she was incredible. She was so knowledgeable about all the life we were seeing during the tour, and even more importantly, she was so passionate about it. She clearly loves her job and is amazing at it, sharing such care and respect for the wonderful whales we were lucky enough to see.
During our trip we spent the first part watching a pair of beautiful humpback whales, and then were so fortunate to see a pod of seven orca, all of the life so close to the Vancouver shoreline! Rodrigo and Darko who were captaining the vessel were brilliant as well - it was a smooth ride and they manoeuvred the boat carefully and safely (for us, and more importantly for the whales) giving the whales lots of space, and giving us plenty of time to take in all we were lucky enough to witness.
I cannot recommend Wild Whales highly enough, it was a truly magical experience!

It was great! We saw lots of whales and many other animals! Nikole told us a lot about the animals and the captain Greg brought us save to the spots where the whales where! They gave us suits, so it wasn't cold and we were at the small boats which was perfect. Would highly recommend! :)

It was a very wet day and also an adhoc decision to go on a whale tour, luckily they had 3 seats left. We were not disappointed either, we saw whales and more than we expected. Despite the weather it was a great experience.

Is it worth taking binoculars?

Sure if you can pack them in without it being a weight burden as you may see the whales right beside you but there is other sealife that may not be up close and the binoculars would come in handy to view such creatures. If you can tolerate carrying them then do so. Better to have than not have.

What is the chance that we will see whales in the early-september time frame?
WildWhalesVan
加拿大温哥华1 条分享
Right now our success rate is about 95%! Your chances of seeing whales is excellent for both humpbacks and orca in September. In the fall we recommend booking early in your stay if you are from outside Vancouver as the weather can be a factor. We also guarantee our sightings so if you come out and we can't find you any whales you come again for free. Hope that help answer your question.
HI, what is the size range on the exposure suits? I have a skinny beanpole 13 yo and a "larger" think 4x size - husband. Do you have suits that will fit them?

We have suits that range from a youth size (an extra small) all the way to XXXL. We can suit up all shapes and sizes and have a few different styles of anti-exposure suit as well. You are welcome to come in to the office ahead of time if yu want to check them out!

Wondering about the options for a trip today- do we need to book and what time options are available? How long is the tour? :) Thankyou

Hi Sam,
So sorry for the delayed response! Thanks for your patience, and thanks for your interest in our whale watching excursions. Hopefully you're still available to join us on a tour this week!
We highly recommend making a reservation in advance. The earlier you make your booking, the more likely we will have space on your preferred vessel/departure.
Our schedule can vary from day-to-day, but we do have a few seats left on excursions tomorrow at 8:30am (on a semi covered vessel) and 3:00pm (on an open air vessel).
The tours last between 3-6 hours depending on how far away the whales are on the day of.
I hope that helps! We would love to see you sometime this week.

Yes you will see a whale! Today this thanksgiving I saw 2 humpback whales swimming around the ocean. They came very near to us! After that we saw seals. We didn’t see any orcas but it’s still the trip was still awesome! If you are looking for orcas than you should wait until spring and summer.
Hi, Olga. What would you like to know about this attraction?
Hi Katerina, I would like to know how long it will take to go to this tour? where are we meeting? Port?
Thanks

As stated the trip length is variable depending on the location of the Whales. The trip departs from the Wild Whales office on Granville Island which is served by buses and metro from downtown area with a 10 min walk to get you to the office. Loads to see and do on Granville, its a tourist destination in its on right with good eating , market and shops as well as the tours of the local waterside by boat.
