Pleasant afternoon at the museum
2021年9月
We visited the Museum of Vancouver on our first day in Vancouver - as a filler before our more "planned" activities.

We are quite happy we got to visit the museum, as we also got to enjoy a stroll to nearby Kitslano beach which offered great view of Vancouver. The museum itself was also a great introduction to the city and to learning more about its past and how it was shaped. The neon sign exposition was particularly interesting and so was the Chinese immigration. It offered a better understanding of our surroundings for the following days that we could relate back to the museum. The part on the 2020 pandemic was slightly surreal to see it in a museum as we are still experiencing it.

The entry price was also decent and we had a pleasant first afternoon learning. Make sure you have your vaccination proof.

Vancouver experience / Experiencia en Vancouver
2021年1月
The museum is wonderful. I enjoyed a lot the part dedicated to the First Nations, it's super interesting. I arrived late and the museum closing time is late too, so I could see everything, but the souvenirs store closes much earlier, so I couldn't buy anything.
I'd like to know more about the First Nation's mythology (I loooooved the map with the emblematic mythologycal beings)...
I didn't like a big distance of the street to arrive/go was in dark, no lights at all. Maybe I had bad luck, but that was scary. Also, they need more bus routes to arrive to this sensational place.
I went in January 2020, but I couldn't post it before.

Hi BSBrenda - thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review and share some insights from your last visit! We are happy to hear that you were able to engage with many of our Indigenous focused exhibitions, especially the Squamish Nation Map by Chief Ian Campbell. We are sorry to hear that the lack of outside lighting during your visit made you feel unsafe - we are looking into the issue with the City of Vancouver. We also agree that more bus routes would make MOV much more accessible to the public. We hope you are able to visit MOV again soon! With gratitude, Lorenzo Schober Marketing and Communications Manager Museum of Vancouver

Lovely indoor activity! There were 3 exhibitions when we visited- Haida/First Nations, Old Vancouver and Chinese history/heritage. As a visitor this gave us great background of the city and its people.

Three in one

Three in one equals, you have the Museum of Vancouver, the Planitrum, the Observatory. Vanier Park holds the Children's Festival (or use to) and Bard on the Beach festival. Short walk there is another historic site and really worth while going to too.

Something great for a rainy day

Looking for something different to do, we came to the Museum.
What a nice museum. The Haida Now exposition is beautifully set.
The exposition showing Vancouver’s history has a great assortment of artifacts dating many decades. And they are beautifully set.
It was Avery fun experience and I learned about the city’s history. Nice and interesting story, as well as hard reminder of some dark moments in its history.

Time Your Visit With the Guided Tours
2019年12月 • 夫妻情侣
It took a Groupon discount ticket to lure us to this museum, after living in the region for some 30 years. We enjoyed our two hour visit, but mainly because of the very informative and well laid out Haida temporary exhibit and the excellent related guided tour. In winter, they provide two daily tours of the exhibit from Friday through Monday, and really without having been able to attend the tour to provide colour and context to the Haida exhibit, I don't think we would have considered our visit to the museum completely satisfying.

It does seem a bit strange that the star attraction of the museum right now is an exhibit on the Haida, an indigenous culture not really associated with the Vancouver area. Just forget the dichotomy and take advantage while you can.

It also seems odd that the regular admission price at this museum is higher than the excellent Museum of Anthropology at UBC, which features a large collection of Native Art. We haven't been there lately, we probably will go soon after our visit to the Vancouver museum piqued our interest in learning more about First Nations culture.

The rest of the museum was mildly interesting; a neon sign exhibit was cool, as were some exhibits that illustrated cultural artifacts of the twentieth century. Ultimately though, these exhibits did not seem particularly historically important, nor all that specific to the Vancouver experience.

Bottom line, do the guided tour, it will add immensely to your visit.

Very interesting.
2019年9月
There are numerous interesting displays recording the growth of Vancouver since the end of the 19C. We also received an illuminating half-hour talk on the Haida exhibition which does much to illustrate the culture of the "original nations" as the indigenous people are now called.
There was a lack of staff inside the actual museum, but overall we had an informative and enjoyable visit, having arrived on a False Creek Ferry.

Start with local indigenous history then walk through scenes, set-up like life-size dioramas, of the post-colonialization moden city starting in the 1850s.

Not really MOVed

We popped in hear one Friday evening when the museum was nearly empty and had a look around. We enjoyed the "bringing nature inside" exhibit but not much else took our fancy and we shuffled off into the sunset. Perhaps it was jetlag?

Hi Mike Thank you for taking some time to leave us a review after your visit. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our Wild Things exhibition as well! We are sorry to hear that the rest of the exhibitions that are currently on display did not have the same effect. In order to bring more context and to elevate the experience we do offer free public guided tours of our Haida Now exhibition at 11:30 and 1:30 daily from Friday to Monday. The tour takes about 1/2 an hour and offers excellent highlights and insight into the pieces on display. If you are still around this coming weekend we would be more than happy to have you back to experience a tour! Email us at marketing@museumofvancouver.ca and we would be happy to set this up. With appreciation, Lorenzo Schober - Communications and Marketing Manager, Museum of Vancouver
