I love trains and wanted to see this museum when visiting Winnipeg on my way up to Churchill on VIA. I was sad that the museum was closed and that there was no way to see the exhibits during my time there. By all accounts this museum looks amazing and features a wide assortment of equipment and support materials. I love that it’s a part of the historic Union train station. Oh well…I hope the museum stays intact and at its current location.

Ce musée a l'air intéressant, surtout pour les amateurs de trains, mais il semblait fermé lors de notre passage en ville. Il est situé dans la gare de train, qui est un bel édifice, tout près du centre-ville.

Está situado en la planta alta de la estación ferroviaria. Me encantó un antiguo ferrobús. Por una ventana se puede ver la zona de andenes de la estación.

Lots of interesting stuff and unique information. Very central downtown location that requires you to pay for parking. But it is very accessible by transit. Excellent place to visit as part of a day downtown.

This museum is a treasure trove of all things railway. They have on show the Countess of Dufferin which was the first locomotive of the Canadian Prairies. There are lots of other rolling stock including baggage cars and handcars. Run purely by volunteers this museum is a delight.

Do spend a little hour or more wandering in the Railway Museum. You'll get to see older coaches and trains and will be able to climb in them to experience the feeling of old travels in Canada.

We came upon the museum, located within the beautiful Union Station, quite by accident. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to fully explore the place, but know that we'll make it a "must" on our next visit to Winnipeg

Do you love trains? If so come here. Do you want to know more about trains? This is a great place to start.
It's also really great that it's in a real and opporational train station so you can see trains waiting and leaving.
Please support the museum, as sometimes their roof leaks during storms and they need to work on fixing the roof as to have the funds to preserve the artifacts better.
Also if you have a train lover in your family, the gift shop has good stuff as gift ideas

Really enjoyed my time at the museum, after an unplanned train delay we decided to check out the museum. Ran entirely by volunteers the museum was enriched with a wealth of information from Winnipeg’s trains to involvement in rail across Canada!
I really enjoyed the visit, getting to learn a lot about the details of the VIA system and Winnipeg’s historical involvement in connecting the country!
Also a wonderful section on women’s involvement in the rail industry which made myself (Male) shocked at how far society has come to creating equality! A really worth while exhibit.
Admission was around $6

Great museum in Union Station that's larger than expected. Loved seeing all the locomotives and rail cars and walking inside some of them. There is a small museum and art gallery in one of the baggage cars where you can buy postcards and t-shirts and more.
