If you know your British WWII history, Beaverbrook will be familiar to you. He was the benefactor of this excellent museum. There is a good selection of Canadian art, all well presented in several comfortable galleries. There are lots of little gems throughout (a Churchill landscape for example). The museum is a NARM participant as well, so bring your card for free admission.

Fondée en 1958 par Max Aitken, premier baron de Beaverbrook et située à Fredericton, capitale du Nouveau-Brunswick (Canada), la Galerie d'art Beaverbrook est le musée des Beaux-Arts de cette province. Les deux œuvres les plus connues de sa collection de peintures historiques et contemporaines (canadiennes, britanniques et internationales) sont le « Santiago el Grande » de Salvador Dalí et le « The Fountain of Indolence » de Joseph Mallord William Turner. La collection permanente comprend également plusieurs sculptures dont certaines exposées à l’extérieur dans le TD Sculpture Garden, situé près du sentier South Riverfront.

It was a pleasure to get back in the gallery after the renos. Maud Lewis, Joe Norris, Tom Thomson, Salvador Dali, Allan Syliboy, Chris Pratt, Andy Warhol, Andrew Steeves, and so many more to explore. Great little cafe to grab a sandwich and coffee after.

This is a solid local art museum, well laid out and pleasant. The $12 admission fee is worth it and you can spend 1-2 hours here. They had mainly temporary exhibits when I went so I think one's enjoyment of the museum will depend on what the exhibits are. Currently, there are 2 Riopelle exhibits, 2 photography exhibits, and a George Paginton exhibit (one of my favourites - he was the artist for the Toronto Star for decades and painted landscapes and cityscapes of Canadian towns and cities from coast to coast). They have a few Maud Lewis paintings which were nice to see. The exhibit of art work from local high school students in response to 2020-2022 events (COVID, Black Lives Matter movement, Ukraine war) was quite moving as well. The most surprising part of their permanent collection is a small room with 4 Salvador Dali paintings - definitely a must-see.
There is a tiny gift shop and lockers. The cafe was closed when we visited but the museum is right downtown close to many restaurants. It is also right off a nice trail where you can run or bike.

The combination of world-class art and the best of national and regional artists is something I would expect in a mid-to-large sized American city, and beyond what I would even expect in a large college town. Not to be missed.

Viewed the sculptures outside because the gallery is closed due to Covid-19 and construction. Online, I was able to see some remarkable pieces and collections from international artists dating back 700 years. I was made aware of the very fascinating “Beaverbrook Dispute” by the wife of the acclaimed author, Jacques Poitras whose book Beaverbrook – A Shattered Legacy chronicled the events surrounding that dispute. I will try and come back one day to see this gallery, but I've said that many times in my travels, But, sure to buy the book...

Surprised that a small town has such a wonderful art museum. Love this hidden jem. There are some amazing works in here and a very wide range of styles.

No directions and repetitive “artwork” which looks as if it was done by the same 2 artists. Any fanciness is taken away by the abundance of touristy Knick-Knacks for sale at the front

Beautiful gallery, great collection of Canadian and international artist.
and of course the famous Dali! A must see if you are in Fredericton.
They curently have an exhibition of Emily Carr that is very worth seeing, but they have great shows year round.

You can take non-flash pictures.
Student rate is $5, but Thursday night is free to all.
University of New Brunswick, St. Thomas University, and NB College of Craft and Design students receive free admission to the Gallery at any time if they bring their student cards.
