Boarded our bus and went to where St John River and the Bay of Fundy
meet to see the Reversing Falls. Low tide 0927 and high tide 1514
with a rise of 28-feet expected today.
St John River is 500-miles long and starts in Maine. Foam in the water here
from a drop of soap Moose Head Brewery uses to wash each bottle before filling.
New Brunswick Province is 85% forested with 33 species of trees, mostly
evergreen. Very little topsoil. Glaciers covered the area until 12,000 years ago.
Visited St Martin’s. Old, covered bridge was 2 x 10’s. New one is 1 x 6’s. Bow of work boats rests on cradle when tide out. Lobster fishing is two seasons.
Stopped at Cave View Restaurant. Caves cut out by wave action. Long
way out to water at noon, halfway between low & high tides. Look for stones with white rings.
Visited City Market, established 1872. It survived a major fire in this area
that took out all the old wooden buildings.
Back to the Reversing Falls at 1345 to see the seawater flowing in. Fisherman after striped bass. Cormorants feeding. Sometimes see seals here, not today. High tide 1514.
