Their slogan is to 'go under the rock,' which you sort of do in this massive geology museum. It explains the geography of Signal Hill and all of St. John's, and has immersive displays of space and science.
Adults without a bent towards these subjects may find it a bit too much reading, or out of their sphere of understanding. But science buffs and kids will love it.

Great place with lots of hands on exhibits. Didn't take us long (<2 hrs) to tour the entire centre (no young kids). Definitely worth a visit!

On our way up Signal Hill we noticed this museum. We always enjoy a good science museum and this one did NOT disappoint! Really well done history of earth and excellent geology presentations. Of the earth and locally in Newfoundland. My wife is a geologist and thought it was REALLY well done. Definitely worth a visit!

My mom and I visited this museum in a rain day - perfect indoor activity. We took a 3 minute taxi ride from our downtown hotel to the museum. We spent over 3.5 hours here! The exhibits on the regional geology as well as the offshore natural oil/gas were fascinating. Many interactive exhibits are available - the kids seemed to really enjoy these. We both came away feeling as if we really learned so much about the area. The following day, on a walk in Quidi Vidi, we found ourselves commenting on the various rocks/formations that we had just learned about. Only complaint is there is no cafe or food available on site. Otherwise, this is a must-see for all ages when in St. John’s.

This is the history of the geology of newfoundland. Very old spot on earth on a timeline. Has oil and gas exploration history too.

Lots of geology exhibits. Not much that’s hands-on for kids, and the whole place seems a bit tired (the space exhibit is really dated) but very interesting rocks and minerals.

The underground exhibit is comprehensive and rich. There are programs every half an hour, such as live science experiments. There are interactive displays and events by their interpreters. My children love it better than many museums in bigger cities!

Interesting inside. Maybe I didn't walk far enough outside but didn't see the attraction outside the building. I really enjoyed the oil and gas room with models of the offshore rigs and suits the men would wear if an emergency caused them to be in arctic waters.

Interesting rock exhibit outside the hall and my kids loved the store. We didn’t go into the inside exhibit because they were closing in 30 minutes and said they still needed to charge us the entry fee. Also there were lots of signs explaining that various things aren’t working.

It’s an excellent museum if you have a Geology degree. So much to read in every exhibit… needs more interactive areas in the museum.

We would recommend hopping on "The Link" to travel up Signal Hill and back. You can find out more information about this service by searching "Metrobus Link" in your search engine. (Unfortunately, it is against TripAdvisor policy to post web links here).

Thank you for your question and interest in the centre. The Johnson GEO CENTRE houses a Titanic Story gallery with replica artifacts and models of the ship. The wreck itself can be found at the bottom of the ocean about 350 miles from the Johnson GEO CENTRE.

Our Senior's rate (60 plus) is $9.00.
